the eau claire county highway department says its resources are stretched thin.. that's why they are hoping to recruit more snow plow operators as the winter season draws closer. amanda tyler reports. winter is here eau claire county highway commissoner jon johnson knows just how tough wisconsin winters can be. people working safely and getting the job done so it's really difficult.with a small staff of 33 plow drivers and plenty of road to clear- -juggling resources can be a challenge.we are at a point right now where if we have a big storm event and it keeps going we literally will run out of resources that's why for the first time ever-- the eau claire county highway department is holding a recruitment fair. they're looking to hire eight seasonal plow drivers-- that will work on an on-call basis this relieve full-time plow operators like ron haas who need a break during long shifts.the biggest thing is the hours. we end up having to work a bunch more hours because we don't have the people to replace the people that are on call so that gets to be the problem.haa
