let's bring in doctor peter hotez.e's a professor and dean of tropical medicine at baylor college of medicine, as well as the co-director of the center for vaccine development at texas children's hospital. doctor hotez, great to see you again. we had you on all the time during the pandemic, and you're such a a great voice for sanity during that during those days. it's great to have you back on. your thoughts this morning, seeing rfk jr. up on the hill today. >> well, you know, my big concern, jim, is his staunch attacks on vaccines. and and i've been dealing with this now for a couple of decades because i'm not only a vaccine scientist and a pediatrician, but i also have a daughter with my youngest daughter. rachel has autism and intellectual disabilities. and years ago, i wrote a book called vaccines did not cause rachel's autism. to counter all of the false information, including a lot of disinformation coming from robert f kennedy jr. and his people and his organizations. and and so that makes me concerned. and here

peter hotez. tim miller is back as well. dr. more pieces of reporting into the conversation. the associated pres last year reported rfk jr. has made his opposition to vaccines clear, quote, in july, kennedy said in a podcast interview, quote, there is no vaccine, there is no vaccine that is safe and effective. rfk told fox news that he still believes in the long ago debunked idea that vaccines can cause autism. in a 2021 podcast, he urged people to resist cdc guidelines on when kids should be vaccinated. quote, i see someone on a hiking trail carrying a little baby and i say to them, better not get them vaccinated, end quote. let me deal in facts and science since we have you and it's such a treat to get to talk to you. on the link between vaccines and autism, i know this is an area of expertise for you. what are the facts? >> yeah, the facts are, nicolle, vaccines do not cause autism. i wrote a book about my daughter because i'm a pediatrician, a vaccine scientist. we develop vaccines. we developed a covid vaccine reaching 100

doctor hotez, thanks so much for being here. first just want to ask you if you're concerned about this outbreak and what your level of concern might be yeah, my my level of concern is is significant. >> i don't want to be alarmist. >> the good news is we've not had person to person transmission. >> so it looks like all of the human cases and there's been about 60 to 70 human cases have either been contracted from cattle, predominantly in california or from poultry in washington state and colorado for for the other half. but but one thing we know is that it only takes a single mutation in the virus to facilitate better transmission between people. so it's something that we're watching very closely. >> and how likely would you say that that would be for it to mutate well, it well it it's it's quite possible and it wouldn't surprise me if it happens. >> the only thing i can tell you, jessica, is what kind of time frame are we talking about? are we talking about in the coming months or in the coming years? and so this this is what w

peter hotez. great to have you with us. >> thank you for having me. >> you have actually spoken to rfk junior yourself about vaccines and the potential link to autism. you speak not only as a vaccine expert but also as a father of a daughter who has autism. i'm wondering, what was his reception when you told him you didn't think vaccines caused autism? >> i had written a book with the title, "vaccines did not cause rachel's autism," about my daughter. it's based on scientific evidence. let's go through it a little bit. i don't know how much time we have. what rfk and other anti-vaccine activists do is they switch the goalposts on what their beef is about vaccines. the original assertion was in 1998 with false claims that it was measles, mumps, that was causing autism. the paper was retracted. they were expensive studies and long-term. there were thousands of children involved. rfk junior wrote a paper in "rolling stone" that said, it's not the mmr vaccine. it's the preservative in vaccine. same th
