that poll was taken before cassidy hutchison's testimony. another major question that remains on answered is the justice department watching. with me to discuss this further is barbara mcquade, she's a former united states attorney for the state of michigan and an msnbc legal analyst. barbara, good morning to you, thank you for being with us. you and i started this discussion earlier this week. obviously, the department of justice is watching this closely, we know from the attorney general, merrick garland, that he is following these developments. they can't just sort of pick it up like a buffet and decide to use it for charges, but what do you think is happening here as it relates to the justice department and potential criminal charges? >> i think i absolutely paying close attention. they've also asked, as we, know for the transcripts of all 1000 witnesses who have testified before the committee. but i don't think that's all they're doing. we also know that search warrants where it served for the cell phones of john eastman and also for je

hutchison has done today is not easy. the easy course is too high from the spotlight -- to hide from the spotlight and to deny what happened. that brings me to a different topic. while our committee has seen many witnesses, including many republicans testify fully and forthrightly, this has not been true of every witness. we have received evidence of one particular practice that raises significant concern. our committee commonly asks witness is connected to mr. trump's administration or campaign, whether they have been contacted by any of their former colleagues or anyone else who attempted to influence or impact their testimony. without identifying any of the individuals involved, let me show you a couple of examples of answers we seek to this question. first, here is how one witness described paul krause -- phone calls from people interested in the witnesses testimony. " but they said to me is as long as i am a team player, i am on the right team. i am protecting what i need to protect. i will continue to stay in good g

and the fact that he did not contradict any points of cassidy hutchison's testimony. one thing he may have been able to speak to is the idea that if she were to allow the president to go to the capital that they would be charge for every crime imaginable and that testimony is critical to the committee. >> indeed, this testimony comes two weeks after the cassidy hutchison testimony. how pivotal was her testimony? >> well, i think the testimony was important in terms of continuing to attract the public's attention and prevent present new information that shows the american people and brings them into the room with what was happening and goes behind the scenes. in terms of building momentum and creating the sense of closing in on the truth, i think the committee was able to move the ball in that regard. it has been something they have been able to do throughout the hearings which is provide new, thorough, and sort of expensive accounts of what was going on. hearing from different people in different parts of the administration. today, what will be interesting will be the

from them saying that hutchison was wrong and they're going to come out and tell the truth about what actually happened to, of course, the texts that they deleted. >> we just heard some of the new sound that the committee played there in manu raju's piece around the discussion over whether to get -- how to get vice president mike pence out of there. we now know from a white house security official that some of these agents were calling home to loved ones. so how much more did what we learn about that episode with vice president pence -- how much more did we learn on thursday night about how bad it was? >> yeah. so thursday night was interesting because i think it just confirmed and was more detailed than a lot of things we had heard before. i don't know if there was sort of a eureka moment that trump's outtakes proved the point that he was a sore loser, but a loser nonetheless, and then these secret service tapes. what i found out about the tapes was the amount of fear or concern. i don't think we had quite heard that, the extent to how close vice president pence was, how worried the
