i feel like i have something i will work towards., our young people have had a struggle. this was one of the first generations that does not have a struggle. we do not have to fight for anything necessarily. things get given to us. we do not necessarily know how to handle ourselves well. that seems to be what happens. when you are 16 or 17 and still developing who you are, what your morals are. it is really tough. i sing a song ♪ >> it is always in the media and in our faces. we have organizations flashing slogans at us, handing out condoms at intersections. it is everywhere but we're not talking about what it is to live with hiv, what it is like to have it. we're not talking about it, but it is everywhere. reflect ony story to to be hiv-positive and the abnormal things we go through just because of that status. there is a lot that we go through. you can live a normal life like everybody else, but there is a lot that we go through that is abnormal. some illnesses cannot be treated as much. the idea is not to depress people. i just wa

i would feel bad that i was ashamed of my poor parents and feels that the kids would come to my house because we were in the wrong neighborhood but also why would be relieved. there was a very big conflict. they couldn't return. i could address them. they were adults, or answer the phone and they would have accent's. it was hard for me. >> i want to ask you. what is it, you devote a lot of to and pages in this book to the deaths of the each of your parents. a lot of time why do you do that? why is that looming so large in the context of your story? >> i just want to say a lot of immigrants will know what it is like to feel ashamed of yellowing plastic on the furniture and plastic flowers but okay. about their deaths. i wrote the book many years after my parents passed away and i was not going to write this kind of book. my mother used to say to me everybody has the story. i have a story and she wrote her story and is in the book of how she survived and she said tell my story but i agree that everyone has the story. everyone out here watching has the story and can be vivid and amazing.
