ian is a hurricane again. give us the newest forecast. >> it is a hurricane again. 75 miles an hour winds, gusts of 90. it is moving to the north northeast at 10 miles an hour. i can't say it enough. ian is not over. it is far from over. we cannot forget what is to come across the south carolina coast, georgia coast and even up into north carolina. the wind field on this storm, wolf, the tropical storm force winds extend more than 400 miles. we're already seeing winds across portions of -- we're already seeing winds across portions of georgia, south carolina, north carolina, tropical storm force winds. they have been feeling it all day long. this storm is expected to come on shore as a category one storm. and the forecast is still very uncertain. the hurricane center made that clear. their 5:00 advisory. so anywhere just to the right of the center where that's going to come on shore is going to get the worst surge. so i don't want to pinpoint an exact area because depending on where it comes on shore is going

but comparisons between charlie and ian.torm is 500 miles wide. the one we talk about hurricane, the part we are typically most concerned about is the section of the storm with hurricane-force winds. the yellow and red here, that stretches from tampa to naples, those winds are more than 100 miles wide. the eye of the storm alone is more than 30 miles wide. just gigantic. for comparison, here is how wide the hurricane-force winds were from hurricane charlie. ten miles wide. that whole hurricane could fit in the eye of today storm. so yes, the storms are tied in wind strength, but ian is going to hit way more of florida and will likely do so much harder. hurricane charlie had a maximum storm surge of 6 to 7 feet. hurricane ian's forecast for a maximum of 12 to 18 feet. that matters a ton because storm surge is likely to be the most deadly aspect of today's storm. hurricane ian is also moving much slower than hurricane charlie, which means more time for rain to fall and with that, more flooding. the reason i bring this up is no

that's what ian already did. i want to focus on what ian is doing.t is a tropical storm. our ryan young is there. good morning to you, ryan. >> reporter: good morning, john. we're waiting to see what happens next, the rain has been unrelenting at this point. the heavy winds have been on and off and picking up in the last 15 minutes or so. so many people trying to make that decision like we did yesterday to leave tampa and drive across the state to orlando. the reason with, they wanted to keep their family safe. at this point, so many people trying to prepare for the storm when we first arrive here in orlando they thought they would dodge the bullet. when we talked to folks outside the grocery store, they were concerned about trying to get the last-minute preparations because they thought they were going to skip this. some people talking about having a hurricane party saying, hey, it missed us. but that has completely changed. it's changing in streets where they normally flood. one of the things about orlando, there are so many lakes and ponds through

there is new information tonight on hurricane ian's expected landfall. let's bring in meteorologist jackie jarvis with our partners at the weather channel. hey there, jackie. >> reporter: good evening, norah. ian remains a major hurricane and very powerful after making landfall over cuba. it's been intensifying once again and will continue to do so all the way up to landfall. there you can see the current wind speed, 120 miles per hour, a category 3 storm, and it's moving in a northerly direction. now, this is the latest track, and today we've had a little bit of an adjustment to the right or to the south of the previous track, so that brings us in as a more powerful hurricane, and it comes in a little bit sooner. so any preparations need to be rushed to completion, and that will continue to move up to the north. storm surge is the deadliest part of the storm. here's our storm specialist dr. greg with the exclusive reality to show you what the storm surge will look like. >> extremely dangerous hurricane ian continues to close in on florida's west coast.

jennifer, give us, first of all, an update on ian's power and path right now. >> well, ian is steadily pushing inland. we still have those tropical storm force winds associated with ian, but it's now a post-tropical system. it's lost its tropical characteristics, but it's still bringing wind and rain. and those are the two primary threats. we have a lot of big trees across the southeast. we have reports of trees down, that's resulting in power outages, as well, a lot of power outages across the carolinas. so as the storm pushes inland, we'll continue to see breezy conditions along the coast, but we'll see conditions really improve over the next couple of hours. that storm surge has gone out. we did rank the top three. this was number three, with the highest storm surge ever reported for myrtle beach. it passed isais. this storm is where we fall with myrtle beach for storm surge. pretty significant. we have a tornado watch until 12 10:00 tonight, so we could see tornadoes spin up across north carolina and virginia as this storm pushes land. here we go, go forward in time, and these show

and ian is not done.ot this local report from kissimmee, which isn't far from orlando. >> we did see an air boat go back in there a while ago. there was a big rescue. someone described the type of truck that was used as a deuce and a half. i don't know vehicles but it was a big truck that rescued several family members. the people that we saw, there was a woman and she had four of her children but she has nine children and three dogs. she left with her youngest children ages 3 to 12. the teen-agers stayed with their father, who is a deputy with the osceola county sheriff's office. he was supposed to report to work but couldn't report to work because of the flooding and they said they stayed in the house as long as they could, but the water kept coming up and coming up and coming up. they said in the last two hours they just couldn't take it anymore. they said water was coming up through the toilets, up through the sinks, water was everywhere, their cabinet doors were floating open. they said all of their

clearly ian's path seems to be adjusting bit by bit. what do we know about where ian is headed now? >> the important reminder is the center of the storm is not all you have to worry about. the concern we have to watch here is how big this storm has widened out. hurricane-force winds now 75 miles across. you can see the well-defined eye. it's gone through a replacement cycle which means it is likely to intensify straight up until landfall. the storm now off the shore of southwest florida. you see the rain bands starting to make their way into ft. myers and eventually up into the tampa bay area. interestingly enough, if we watch the track from the national hurricane center, it takes it up to a category four with 130 mile-per-hour winds. landfall as a category three. probably some sometime or as a category four, i should say. sometime in the afternoon or evening. look at how slowly it's moving. by 8:00 a.m. even with orlando and moving up and along the coast and reemerges off the atlantic by thursday morning as a tropical storm. then eventually becomes a low-pressure system into the we
