recent steps indicate that the probe involving giuliani and his two former associates, lev parnas and igor fruman is still moving forward despite the fact that the justice department recently set up a process to evaluate his claims about alleged wrong doing in ukraine. according to the post, people familiar with the matter said attorney general william barr was briefed on the investigation in manhattan shortly after taking office a year ago. his involvement since then is unclear. both a spokesmen and spokesperson for the justice department declined to comment. giuliani says he has not been contacted by investigators. he wrote in part quote they have asked me for not a single thing, and i didn't do anything remote remotely illegal. i believe it's unfair if investigating. >> william barr, more than 1,100 former federal prosecutors and justice department officials are calling on barr to resign after he intervened in the roger stone case last week. they write in part, each of us condemned president trump's and william barr's interference in the fair administration of justice. they go on to say

"the new york times" headline on october 11th, the day after the lev and igor indictment, giuliani isd to be under investigation for ukraine work. then three days later "wall street journal," october 14, federal prosecutors scrutinized giuliani's ukraine business dealings and financing. bloomberg news november 14th. giuliani faces campaign probe on lobbying and finance breaches. federal subpoenas seek information on giuliani business. the president's personal lawyer who has been running this scheme in ukraine on behalf of the president is under federal criminal investigation. we thought. all that news broke in october and november. we hadn't heard much about it since november as the president's impeachment over the ukraine scandal took hold. what happened to that potential criminal prosecution? now we may know because today the justice department released this memo. it is dated a month ago. it's dated january 17th. today is, nevertheless, the first we are learning of it. but what this memo spells out is that, apparently a month ago, the justice department established a whole new chain

giuliani case in the southern district of new york, which resulted in charges so far against lev and igor but not against rudy giuliani. we'll have more on that a little later in the show. so it may not just be that one attorney's office in washington, d.c. it may be the sovereign district of d.c., one that somebody assured us would be so sovereign nobody could ever push them around. one last piece i need to underscore because this rattles my molars the most about the revelation of this crisis today and it's from "the new york times." it's about barr establishing these oversees in washington, d.c. about sensitive cases that relate to the president. not only has that team inserted itself into the stone case and flynn case but "the times" today describes this team hand picked by attorney general william barr as interceding in various cases, quote, some public, some not. some not. some indications we don't know about? you mean, what "the times" is reporting among the politically sensitive cases that -- and every other case we know of in this circumstance has something to do directly with the
