san francisco homicide investigators are in the ingleside neighborhood where a man was shot and kill overnight. terry mcsweeney is live at the police station. >> reporter: just for clarification the police station investigators are working that case over in the ingleside district and what we have is a man find shot shortly after midnight and investigators are saying he has died. take a look at pictures from the scene. according to the police the shooting took place shortly after midnight. a neighbor called it in 12:20. there were three shots, a pause and five more shots. police arrived at the scene, firefighters, emergency crews, there was an effort, we are told, to revive the victim, but it was too late. he passed away. described only as a man in his 20s. police don't have a lot more than that right now because again, it is maybe four hours ago that this transpired. interesting, this happened near niagara, a couple blocks from city college san francisco, the same street where five people were murdered earlier this year in march. that turned out to be a robbery that went bad. five pe

i polled the captains of payview, mission, ingleside and the northern district. these are the most affected by gang violence. they said they appreciated what the crn did what they want to see them more. they need to fill that communication. it also comes down to training and trust, to be able to have them talk to officers. they would address the officers, they had arrested some of them, when there were actually under. they will help the police and the community. under his guidance we are the most active community. of anyone in this country and any department. he puts his money where his mouth is. he tells them to stay out of the gang, and that we have officers with a wilderness program. there are a number of things in the organization in place to start to make change. we have seen this over the last three or four years. in 2008 there were 98 homicides in san francisco. the number is now almost half. i think we continue to see that, as we work with the community. in closing, i want to say that your task force, they do an amazing job. they have the community aspect
