we have mike inouye. he is watching the roadways. christina loren will have an extended forecast and delays at the airport. we start off with christie smith who is at the flooded underpass in fremont. she has a look at what is nothing short but a mess all morning. i hope you have your boots on. >> reporter: i do have my boots on. we have been at this since 3:15 this morning. i have to tell you, the rain hasn't stopped. there are trees down and flooding. i want to show you the underpass. the waterfall formed off the side of the hill. it was flooded maybe 20 minutes ago. one car had to be towed out. the driver told me the road closed sign had been moved. he said it was deeper than he thought. a larger truck made it through just fine. this is the kind of morning it's been with power knocked out to bay area bridges including the richmond san rafael bridge. there were trees toppled over because the ground is so saturated. fortunately the limb we shot did not hit anyone. along 101, pounding rain and delays. one driver had to stop and stare

first we want to check your drive on a back-to-work monday with mike inouye. >> we'll take you for a beautiful view. a smooth drive for these lights in motion across the bay bridge. both decks clear. over on your right you see the new suspension and it's almost looking like a christmas tree as well. we'll look at the maps and there's just a tad bit of slowing up the incline. this is through the area into the city. if you're heading out of the area as many folks do this week, there's still no problems but sacramento. it's a little drier than it was on friday and over the weekend, but as you head over the summit, west 80 out of blue canyon, you do have some snow and ice reported. the snow the white on the mountain tops and pink, icy conditions. so just remember use caution if you're heading there in the early morning hours. lucky you. looking out over our own high rise, this is coming op the san mateo bridge. headlights over to the peninsula with no slowing and a nice clear view over that bridge and the flat section. >>> young adults from an oakland-based nonprofit youth program in was

mike inouye, what's happening on the roads? >> we do have a lot of overnight rain., slicker conditions in many spots. here's the san mateo bridge. you can catch the headlights a little sheen on the roadway. but this is just fine, the bridge itself. over on the east bayside, we'll look at the map and you see construction west 92 at the hisperian offramp. we're looking at the green here and that looks like maybe wet pavement. westbound at north livermore avenue at accident over at the shoulder. speeds coming down to 60. lower those speeds a tad bit. i'm circling this right here. you talked about the paragon outlets in livermore. that's about where it is. both directions starting at 10:00 yesterday became slammed with traffic. there was an accident, i thought maybe that was helping make things a little slower, but no, for hours it stayed basically at a gridlock from the dublin interchange to that area. that was a problem for many folks trying to get through the area yesterday. we'll track it today. >>> it's 4:56. the winners of the big awards will be announced next wee

mike inouye is taking a look at the roads for us. meteorologist christina loren has a look at your forecast of course but we begin with bob redell, who is live at the bay bridge. we just saw a look at that live shot. yeah, plenty of fog there, bob. >> reporter: yeah, and it's very dense. there is dense fog in the north bay, san francisco, the upper peninsula and oakland. you can see live behind me this is the scene at the bay bridge toll plaza where we're certainly already seeing that early monday morning backup and perhaps, perhaps part of the reason why it's backing up so much is because of the dense fog. the national weather service has issued dense fog advisories for five of the bay area bridges, including the bay bridge. live look at the golden gate bridge cam, you can't even see the two towers of the golden gate bridge. there is a lot of dense fog there. the headlights heading southbound from marin into san francisco. you've also got advisories on the richmond-san rafael, benicia-martinez and the san mateo. all of those under a

first let's get a report on the roads with mike inouye. >> this is the bay bridge toll plaza. the metering lights were turned on a few minutes early today because of reports of a stalled vehicle over on the far right as you're heading through the toll plaza. now, i've been watching this, all lanes are moving through the area and we do see traffic start to move more smoothly across the incline. our live camera shows you that. the stream of red lights heading up toward treasure island. it's very crowded but the metering lights keep things well spaced. the map will show you there is a backup toward treasure island but the east shore freeway holds up just fine. the south bay, the commute is on for northbound 101 and north 87. we'll outline this. the first burst sticking around. speeds into the 40s and 50s where you see the orange there. a live look outside we'll show you the san mateo bridge. 92 picks up that westbound direction with those headlights. the construction not causing any problems over at the 92 to north 101 interchange. pretty smooth. back to you. >>> it's 6:09. comin

christie smith and marla tellez outside monitoring road conditions near local rivers, mike inouye checking our local commute but let's start out with christina loren. what's happening right now? >> we're just getting slammed right now. some of the heaviest rainfall we've had in two years on the way to the bay area. this is only the second round of heavy rain. we have another one to get to over the course of the weekend. the camera shakes from time to time, we have some gusty winds picking up. we want to take it live to the radar because that tells the story of the day. look at all the rainfall coming down up and down the bay area. we have heavy pockets, thunderstorms and already reports of downed trees and mud slides in the area. look at the east bay just getting slammed with heavy to moderate rain from fairfield all the way down through oakland and san francisco. we're planning on flight delays this morning in addition to one of the roughest drives that we've had in a while. now, it is friday, so it could be friday light. nonetheless, give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination

good morning, mike inouye. >> good morning, christina loren. lighter volume of traffic around the bay right now largely because some businesses and schools have today's off for veterans day observed. we're looking over to south 880 where we do see some slowing through fremont and that's what the headlights, a live picture here. on our maps i've marked the arrowheading south toward mission boulevard. no incidents reported but we'll track that burst of slowing through that area. south 680 out of plenton into sunol and west 580 typical spots but a lighter volume so lighter slowing than typical for this time on a monday morning. also south 880 starting to slow down as you head into hayward and toward the san mateo bridge which moves smoothly. the bay bridge also moves smoothly as you head over the span. a live look at the toll plaza shows you it's a very light volume right now, but there's a new incident reported on the east shore freeway. i'll check it out and get back to you in the next report. >> thank you very much, mike. it is 6:36. >>> union

let's check with our own energizer bunny, mike inouye. >> look over here to the south bay where thisod. the green here is good, the sensors showing us speeds close to the limit. here the yellow dipping down a tad bit but i'm going to overlay this because my traffic computer is integrated with christina's weather computers here. where i've been colored in with the green. you notice it's not over here on the edge but other areas is where there may be slicker roadway conditions. likely damp throughout the south bay. by contrast we move over where the rain is coming through and the blue on my maps will show you the potential for puddling and ponding. as you're coming in off the altamont pass, this red section slow because of a single car accident still in the center divide. keep in mind slick conditions. live looks outside, this is over here in fremont, smooth drive for 880. another live look will show you that this is the bay bridge where we still have some puddling and rooster tailing as water kicks up through the puddles. the peninsula also slick in spots, palo alto at university aven

let's check on the roads everywhere across the bay area with our own mike inouye. >> the roadways areetting wetter, especially north of the golden gate bridge so just use that caution right now. we'll focus on the south bay to start. here's that traffic flow really starting to bump up the volume a little bit later and more gradual during this vacation week but still it's a traffic tuesday. we'll see a pretty heavy commute here. the map shows you the slowing already in place and north 87 coming into downtown all the way up toward the interchange with 280. overall the flow is pretty nice right here and only 85 is the only additional slowing that we see northbound. but the gradual build throughout the south bay really going to kick in about an hour from now. we'll get a live look outside -- i'm sorry, let's show you the oakland area past the coliseum. a smoother drive but mist empty air as well. if we look at the bay bridge toll plaza, you'll see there's a little mist on the lens and the roadway as well, some sheen. the east shore freeway, visibility is getting a little tough coming town

let's check on the morning commute with mike inouye. >> mostly cloudy and we're hearing mostly crowdy over at the toll plaza where we have the wet roads. look at that, the water kicks up some of the leftovers from last night's rain. there is the slow at the toll plaza. the map shows you it is moving smoothly but the yellow spots just below 60. i'm going to overlay some weather data. the green here you may have slicker conditions like the bay bridge toll plaza. this is west 580 into livermore, the earlier accident and two accidents reported have both completely cleared from the roadway. a lot of folks headed toward the dublin interchange. the blue over there is where there may be some ponding so keep that in mind. we'll end with another live look outside at fremont as 880 moves smoothly. again, water kicking up coming down 880 down into the south bay. still some slick roadways. >>> now to a developing story on the east coast. a live look at times square in new york city where it is slowly, ever owe soly getting back to normal. city streets picking up with activity. it is a city, howeve

i would never, ever, ever want you to miss mike inouye's traffic report because it might make you late. >> are you sure? that's good. looking over to the south bay where traffic is moving smoothie as you might expect. i expect a pretty strong commute today but everybody has to get that last day in before some folks skedaddle out of town starting tomorrow and next tuesday will be heavy, folks back from vacation. the accident has cleared heading past greenville so no more slowing eastbound. it is westbound now that is slow which has started coming into livermore, through the construction zone on the eastbound side again. and no problems, but this is the route where we see the build and down into sunol where the crews still there just past highway 84. i still see a little slowing coming eastbound out of castro valley toward the dublin interchange but no accidents. speeds just around 60, i checked the meters, so that shouldn't be a big deal for folks heading through the area. looking over to palo alto and a smooth drive across the dumbarton bridge. a live look shows you the san mateo bridg
