now, 12 of those homes are located right here in northeast dc ivy city neighborhood. and i will step out of the way and you can see the work site behind me where those white tents are. construction is going to start at 8 a.m. but the main event won't start until 10:00 and that's when president and mrs. carter will be speaking with habitat for humanity ceo. now, this will be either president carter's first public appearance or certainly one of his first public appearances since he was admitted to the hospital last week. clearly he is doing much, much better. this is also going to be the 27th year for this carter work project in washington. this is a big pet project of his and he has made it clear he did not want to miss this event. and he will be here at 10:00 this morning. now, excuse me, just tripped over my own two feet there. of course, you can see it is still raining. we haven't gotten rid that yet but these volunteers are used to working in the rain and say they will begin to build and renovate homes at 8 a.m. no matter what. so hopefully this rain won't hinder t
