j.c. hayward was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, it is personal and private but j.c. is sharing her journey with her family of viewers. today we are back together again on this buddy check 9 day. we are buddies and you want to be buddies to other women out there who may be going down the same road with you. you told us about the diagnosis on friday. today was your meeting with your breast surgeon. tell us about that. >> reporter: as you know, andrea, breast cancer has four stages, and mine is either stage i or i i, also she told me it was estrogen positive. i can take certain drugs to fight the cancer, easier than if it wasn't. it would be more difficult. she also told me she did not think that this is dr. magnum from the sullivan breast center, she also told me she did not believe that i would have to have chemotherapy. so that is good. but probably radiation four to six weeks, only one minute a day. so i won't miss a newscast so that is good news. >> your viewers are thrilled about that part of it. >> reporter: and they she talked -- she talked about treatment. she

j.c. hayward. thanks for joining us. spring is on hold today, while a storm is bringing snow, wind and rain to parts of the northeast. howard is here, he can tell us what we can expect. >> reporter: j.c., it has been somewhat of a miserable day around here weatherwise, after being in the 80s on saturday. temperatures are not going to move much more, maybe a few more degrees before the day is out. the main storm from yesterday, the rain which brought in some cases over three inches is way up in new england and canada. we have an upper level storm sitting right over us, producing lots of clouds and west of 95, showers and in the mountains, all this blue you see there, that is snow. some of the snow has been on the hefty side. locally on live doppler hd, light showers for the most part, some areas of drizzle moving slowly off toward the east. you can see as we zoom in toward the metro, howard counties through prince william, we have light showers here, scattered more about the region. not as widespread east of i-95. but it

j.c. hayward. the judge granted bail of $150,000 for george zimmerman. the man who was charged in the death of trayvon martin. zimmerman appeared in court this morning and he took the stand to apologize to martin's family. randall pinkston has the latest now from the courthouse in sanford. >> reporter: murder suspect george zimmerman wore a suit and was shackled as he walked into a sanford, florida courtroom this morning. in a dramatic move, at his bond hearing the 28-year-old addressed the court. >> i wanted to say i am sorry for the loss of your son. i did not know how old he was. i thought he was a little bit younger than i am and i didn't know if he was arm on the other hand. >> reporter: but probation reports questioned who want -- prosecutors questioned why did he wait so long. >> why did you wait to tell them? >> i was told not communicate with them. >> reporter: he's charged with second degree murder for gunning down 17-year-old trayvon martin. during a confrontation in february. zimmerman says it was self- defense. this was zimmerman's second co

j.c. hayward. the nation's highest court is taking up the issue of immigration today. justices are deciding whether arizona's tough law goes too far. part of that law requires police to check the status of everyone they stop. those who cannot prove they are legal u.s. residents can be arrested. >> the justices today are going to look at the legal issues, specifically does congress have the exclusive power over immigration or are k states like as -- can states like arizona get involved? >> the obama administration sued arizona to block the law. saying the federal government should be in charge of immigration. attorneys representing arizona argue that the law is necessary to control illegal immigration in a state that shares a border with mexico. >>> as the justices were hearing arguments inside court, protestors were argue, they are side of the case outside. delia goncalves has more. >> reporter: after a 48 hour prayer vigil outside a u.s. supreme court, hundreds of protestors rally against the arizona immigration law. >> what do we want? >> justice. >> reporter: advoca

j.c. hayward, thank you for joining us. an elderly woman is fighting for her life an early morning house fire and officials think it was caused by aigrette in the 1300 block of -- cigarette in the 1300 block of northwest. delia goncalves has the latest from the scene. >> reporter: as you can see the fire nearly destroyed this old home. firefighters say flames started in a second floor bedroom. >> we saw flames coming out of the window and very dark billowing smoke. >> reporter: firefighters rushed to the scene in six minutes, had the fire knocked out if 20. still, residents trapped inside suffered severe smoke inhalation. >> the two men and their mother who live in the house -- they got out of the house. >> and we hope and pray that they're all okay. >> reporter: but the deputy fire chief says one elderly resident was closest to the fire on the second floor. that victim was unconscious. crews performed cpr at the scene and rushed the victim to med star. >> the person was not in the bedroom but there was a lot of smoke up th
