j.r. stone tells us about this new type of strike team that is being called a first in the nation. >> this program will put five fire engines and 20 soldier firefighters out on the front lines. >> it is called a strike team, which you may have heard of, but what is new is the partnership. you have state fire engines with california national guard men and women inside those vehicles. it's said to be the first of its kind in the nation. the goal here is to help better contain fires. >> from my perspective, this new agreement is important because it means there are new units that can get to fires faster. j.r.: chris is the director at the stanford woods institute for the environment. he has written extensively about fighting fires. while he is optimistic, he believes we need to do better in all areas, fighting fires, fire prevention, and funding those methods. >> we are still struggling to make the level of investment necessary to get ahead of the problem on a timetable that works for folks.

abc 7 news reporter j.r. stone is following this developing story tonight. >> an officer roping off the area at 24th admission with yellow crime scene tape after a man died on a train platform. >> one stab wound to the chest. >> surveillance cameras show two adult males arguing near the elevator at approximately 1:40 p.m. before one individual stabs the second individual near the station elevator. the victim walked down the stairs into the station and subsequently collapsed on the platform. a move that led to this. >> mission station is closed due to police activity. >> that victim died on the platform. it is the second violent scene involving a bart station or train within 48 hours. friday, in a separate case, gunshots rang out on a train near oaklands fruitvale station. >> shooting on the train. request an ambulance. >> when that train arrived, an officer applied a tourniquet to the gunshot victim's wound. that victim survived but sadly, the stabbing victim on sunday did not. sunday's stabbing also happened
