joining us now is colonel jack jacobs. good morning to you.ute of silence there from the metropolitan police and lawmakers in london. otherwise london back to work, showing solidarity and a sign of defiance to get back to work this morning. londoners won't be cowed by terrorists. >> yeah. i lived in london for about five years, years ago when i was with bankers trust. there were lots of difficulties from time to time, but london is an extremely resilient place. i'm not surprised things at least have an air of getting back to normal. >> kol necolonekocolonel, at th is being treated by the british as a lone wolf attack. sir michael fallon saying they're working on the assumption that it's linked to islamic terrorism in some form, though that's not the conclusion yet. what do you take from that? of course other attacks we've seen across europe in the last couple of years? >> well, the attack itself followed the playbook of isis and was almost exactly like the things that isis in previous publications has encouraged supporters to do around the wor

let's bring in colonel jack jacobs, medal of honor recipient.more concerned now about potential conflict with north korea than we were half a year ago, five years ago, and why? >> well, yes is the short answer. a lot of it has to do with the tests that have taken place, but i think everything started some time ago when kim jog un took over and the people that surround him took over, and they went on an unalloyed attempt to test a nuclear weapon. things started to go south some time ago. >> when we look at the new administration, the words used towards north korea and towards china, you know, a prep zbligs out of place can actually anger any international country, any non-u.s. country because of the translations in the way the international security and foreign policy works. do you think that there's anything in that mix that has made things less good? not as good, shall i say? >> talk is always cheap. i think on both sides -- all three sides, as a matter of fact, korea, north korea, china, and the united states, there's a lot of public talk and

i want to turn to military analyst jack jacobs, a medal of honor recipient. great to see you today and tough topics we have to talk about, but we should be clear at the start of this, there are conflicting reports from matt, as we are hearing, about what exactly happened and who or whom would be at fault for this in this coalition air strike if that did happen in mosul. what is the severity, if it is based on a coalition air strike that the u.s. was involved in, the ramifications? >> well, first, combat in cities is extremely difficult, and isis has herded a lot of civilians into areas they want to protect. and so, civilian casualties are almost inevitable in situations like this. but it's important to understand exactly how air strikes ought to be conducted. i put in a lot of air strikes, and so did many of my compatriots in vietnam, but in every case, or nearly every case, we were actually involved in a gunfire with t fight with and we could see the target and we could confirm what was in the target and its exact location. as technology has sort of taken ove

one of them is with us, our friend and colleague colonel jack jacobs, u.s. army. congratulations on that. welcome back to the new york stock exchange. we wanted to pull you in to get your thoughts on the deadly attacks in london today. it's the one-year anniversary of the attacks in brussels and yesterday is when the united states and great britain were talking about not allowing people with larger electronic equipment to fly into the united states. are these related? >> they are related. the second less so. less concerned about reactions to decisions that are made at the governmental level that will make it difficult or more difficult for terrorists to travel around. isis is very much into symbolism. and today's one-year anniversary i think figures heavily on the decision to conduct the attack today. this is -- i know it's a cliche to say this is right out of isis' textbook but it is exactly that. isis has been encouraging sympathizers around the world to conduct exactly these kinds of attacks. >> wouldn't we know by now? don't they typically like to say, look at

kernel jack jacobs is still with us. you were just discussing some of the logistical issues at hand here as we try to figure out exactly what just happened on that scene. >> say it again. i missed that. sorry. >> we're talking a little bit about the logistical challenges of handling an issue like this, not only the density of the population, but obviously, westminster bridge and police trying to not only have access to the area to figure out what happened so that we can all figure out as well, but then keeping the public safe. >> yeah. it's extremely difficult logistically to control traffic in a place like the center city in london, but think about this. it's late in winter and early in spring, and there are not nearly as many people, particularly tourists, in london as there would be in just a couple of months. so, not to put too fine a point on it, but this could have been very much worse, had this been at the height of the tourist season. anybody who's been in london would know that the place is actually jam packed,

let's bring in msnbc military analyst colonel jack jacobs. great to have you here this morning. >> good morning. >> so is there any way to determine why these trump team members met with the russian ambassador, does anybody have an answer to that, and what is russia's angle when it comes to these so-called meetings? >> well, americans and russians is officials and people who are not officials, businessmen, so on, meet all the time. and for pretty good reason, too. there is no way of telling exactly what the conversation was especially in an environment in which the officials deny that they have met in the first place, which gives a very unsavory aspect to the whole thing. russia has two objectives always in almost everything that it does. one is power and the other is money. there is no doubt about the fact that meeting with americans under any circumstances has at the back of it those two objectives. but we won't know anything until one of two things laps, either everything leaks out and washington is the leakiest vessel in the entire univer

colonel jack jacobs, msnbc military analyst. welcome as always. good to have you with us. >> good afternoon. >> at times like this, we begin to think about how vulnerable we, in the united states, may be, to these kinds of attacks, automobiles running in and trucks in niece, berlin and now london, taking out pedestrians. how can you ever prevent that kind of thing? >> well, you can't. there's no way you can protect against it completely. >> these are the kinds of things that have been encouraged by isis specifically for sympathizers to do exactly this sort of stuff that i know that the authorities want to keep an open mind. terrorist incident. always can be somebody who is worried about brexit or something else. but isis has encouraged it's sympathizers everywhere around the world to do exactly this sort of thing. and you can't -- a vehicle is a deadly weapon, especially in an environment like a crowded city. and there's no way that you can protect against it completely. if you talk to law enforcement people, military people, intelligence people,
