. >> our team coverage continues now with news4's jackie bensen, who is live in darnestown park, where police have been searching today. jackie? >> reporter: jim, we think of montgomery county as congested, but there is a surprising amount of open air space, woods, parks like this in the area near catherine hoggle's clarksburg home. what we can tell you at this point is that investigators came here this morning and did what's called a grid search in this area, looking for any sign of catherine and her missing children, 2-year-old jacob and 3-year-old sarah. about 50 officers arrived here at darns town park this morning. they divided the area to be searched into sections and examined each one thoroughly. nothing was found. now the significance of this park, darnestown park, is that it is just a few hundred yards from the harris teter where catherine hoggle was last seen sunday night. she is known to have gone to that harris teter. police are asking anyone who spends time in parks and wooded areas of this section of montgomery county to look out for them. if it they see anything at all t

[ no audio ] >> reporter: i think there was something wrong with the video we were going to show. what i can tell you is right now police have two scenes that are two miles apart. they learned of the car accident first about 2:30 this afternoon. shortly after that, they were called to an address on great elm, which is just about two miles north of here for a fire they discovered the body of a woman, according to sources. police tell us they are at this time waiting for a search warrant to search that home on great elm. they are identifying the next of kin of the deceased man found here and the woman found at the home just a short distance away. they are hoping by confirming those identities they will learn a lot more about exactly what happened here this afternoon. live in potomac, jackie bensen, news4. >> thanks, jackie. >>> we

jackie vin jackie bensen is live with the details. >> reporter: this is an internal review of how social workers, school and staff handled this disturbing and heartbreaking case. she was living at the family shelter when her mother allowed a janitor at the facility to essentially take her. her disappearance was brought to light when the janitor caught his wife. two weeks later he was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. officials have stated they believe she was killed within days of being taken from the shelter. and the report knows her mother never reported her missing saying the review team did not find evidence that these tragic events were preventable. it does go on to recommend better training for social workers and staff. there were several instances where professionals mandated to report known or suspected child abuse failed to act. the report goes on to say quote the shelter's no fraternization policy did not require employees to report violations of that policy. and the shelter staff for failing to keep track of kids stating during nightly checks shelter staff did not
