jackie bensen is live with more on security concerns in that neighborhood. jackie?> reporter: people in this neighborhood are deeply concerned about an almost 30% in street robberies over this time last year. one of the most recent claimed a life. engineers from d.c. water surveyed the street lights near the intersection of w street northwest looking for broken lights. it's where 27-year-old seth rich was shot and killed during what police believe was an attempted robbery early sunday morning. the geography of this neighborhood has been heavily affected by the massive first street tunnel project, designed to address bloomingdale's flooding problem. and robert brannen thinks the robbers may be taking advantage of those changes. >> even how the police do their own surveillance and routine >> reporter: in a press release yesterday, george hawkins of d.c. water revealed a number of security enhancements the agency is doing, including the lighting survey and removing some curtains directed to dampen construction sounds. he reminded residents there was a 24-hour hotline.
