news4's jackie benson joins us at the scene with new developments and reaction from the mayor. jackie? >> reporter: well, doreen, we now know that the young man who was shot is 17. we know he was shot in the chest. we know he is a student at ballou high school. i want to show you what's going on here. take a look at that metro bus. there is an investigator inside there downloading what i -- doing what i believe is downloading the video from the bus's camera. police tell us that a black vehicle -- they're not sure what kind of car it is, but they believe it is black with tinted i'm sure that d.c. police are going to look at that camera inside the bus and see if it captured any images of that vehicle so they can give us a better description. this happened just as school let out. police tell us that it was -- began as some type of argument, that people heard an argument on the street and shortly after that the 17-year-old was shot. we are told that he was unconscious, but he was breathing when he was taken away from the scene here. earlier we heard from d.c. mayor muriel bowser. sh

here's news4 jackie benson. >> reporter: after a lifetime together, their deaths came just two weeks apart. his caused by illness, hers by the early morn heights home lawrence and elaine james shared for more than 35 years. their adult son lived with them. as the fire raged, 80 elaine james became trapped in an upper floor bedroom. she was rescued but later died. mrs. james' son was treated for smoke inhalation, he was able to escape the burning home but could not get to his mother. >> he was out trying to get people to call 911. >> reporter: a firefighter was also burned. he's recovering at a local burn unit. >> we had a deal with bars on the windows and doors and because of the very heavy fire conditions that are reported, somebody trapped we send firefighters in. >> reporter: investigators say there were no working smoke alarms in the home. the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen. in capital heights, jackie benson, news4. >>> a pedestrian was struck and killed by two vehicles police are still looking for that second driver. he was trying to cross new hampshire avenue.

in fairfax county, jackie benson, news 4. >>> here at the live desk, you can add gabby douglas to theof young women who allege they were sexually abused by a doctor for gymnastics. she posted on instagram late tonight and says this in part. no matter what you wear, it never gives anyone the right to harass or abuse you. of the leotards we wore it was our fault that we were abused by larry nasser. her statement was in many ways an apology to aly raisman. she tweeted that raisman invited attacks on her by dressing in a provocative way. she has apologized repeatedly. tomorrow nasser is expected to enter a plea deal. the charges carry a minimum of 25 years in prison. and that's not all for him and the law. he's also going to have future sentencing. he is accused of sexually abusing more than 130 women. back to you. >>> a prince georges county police officer with less than a year on the job is on leave tonight, charged with assault. police in the district say he pulled his gun on three people this past weekend and was only caught after dropping that gun and coming back to look for it. late
