joining us is jackie speier of california, a member of the house intelligence committee.to ever you here in studio. thanks for being with us. what did you hear last night? >> so i heard him give a teleprompter speech. he came off quasi presidential, which is the new normal, i guess. if with get one good speech and if he resists the tweets this morning, maybe we'll get through a day where there is not going to be lashing out. >> but beyond style, what did you hear in terms of the substance? the white house said he was trying to be bipartisan. and that message, this is your time, if you're american you can do anything you dream of. those are messages obviously that resonate on both sides of the aisle. did you achieve bipartisanship? >> i think many of us felt he would throw out one liners and -- keeping gitmo open, for instance. it is is costing $13 million a year per person. only 41 people are left there. he throws out the a couple of nice lines. immigration comments were very divisive. when you say chain migration instead of family unification, you're not trying to come u

thank you, jackie speier. joining me now is pennsylvania republican congressman charlie dent who voted for the short-term government funding bill that passed the house on thursday. first of all, your reaction to the schumer possibility of a longer term agreement which would include the d.r.e.a.m.ers. we understand border security, some of the other immigration proposals that the president wanted, chain migration for instance, those family members. but would be a longer term fix for some of these other problems. >> well, andrea, we do need a long-term budget agreement. we will not get that budget agreement though till we have an agreement on daca plus border security and the other provisions, family migration, that sort of thing. that has to happen. now, in order for that daca bipartisan agreement to occur, the house leadership and the senate leadership have to allow a bill to come to the floor in the house anyway that will not get the majority to support it. i don't see any way around that. the house right now

join me from capitol hill, california congresswoman, jackie speier.s a pleasure. welcome back. >> thank you, brooke. >> i want to begin with steve bannon. you heard from mr. bannon yesterday. he kept citing executive privilege, so many times that your committee with a republican chair had to subpoena him to compel him to answer. what was it that he was refusing to answer? >> it wasn't him as much as his attorney in consultation with the white house general counsel who was calling the shots, frankly. it was the white house who was playing a dance, frankly, to try and invoke executive privilege without invoking it. we have to call mr. bannon back because he was unable to answer any questins about the transition or term of strategist with the white house from january 20th to when he was terminated. >> so just so i'm clear. >> he communicated with the white house to get instructions as to what mr. bannon going to be able to respond to. i think there's no question about that. it was a gag order impoeimposed the white house and for all intents and purposes,

i'm joined by congresswoman jackie speier who sits on the house intelligence committee. thank you so much. i have 50 questions to ask you. the first is, i want to get to the heart of this. i think steve bannon has it out for trump now. he went and talked to michael wolff. he seems to think the route for removing it president trump from office potentially are the business dealings engaged in by his son and namesake don junior by jared kushner and paul manafort. money laundering is the root to the demise of donald trump's presidency. what do you smell here? >> well, i would basically agree with you that money laundering is a component of what the problem is with the trump organization and the trump presidency. i will say though that steve bannon today wanted to cooperate more fully than he was able to. and i think that he will be called back again. his attorney did not make available any production of documents, which was very regrettable. and again, i think we're going to have to depend that, as well. you can't do a legitimate investigation if you don't get the documents
