let's go to msnbc's jacob soboroff who's in san bernardino. take us through a timeline of events over the past 14 hours. >> we noted at 11:14 pacific time, the first calls came into dispatch center. according to the police chief, the police chief of the san bernardino police department, but first responders arrived on the scene within four minutes. we heard from the police chief earlier on the east coast. he said this had to be some degree of planning that went into. indeed, there are three active crime scenes in the san bernardino area. we know one at the inland regional center where the shooting tragically and the loss of life of 14 people took place. also where i am right now at san bernardino avenue where the two shooters were engaged with 4 law enforcement personnel, and they lost their lives and finally, as you mentioned in redlands, which is six or seven miles to the east where we are in san bernardino, where the home of the suspect syed rizwan farook was raided by law enforcement personnel. tonight an ongoing investigation. on the east

we want to turn right now to msnbc's jacob soboroff who's in san bernardino. can you take us through a timeline of the events over the past 13 hours. >> reporter: that's exactly right, 13 hours ago at 11:14 local time, the first calls started to come in to dispatch center from the inland regional center. just four minutes later, according to the police chief, law enforcement responded to the scene. ultimately 14 people lost their lives. we know 17 people are injured. at two local area hospitals. right behind me right now, a little later is where the shootout with the suspects occurred. right here at san bernardino avenue. just a little ways, maybe a quarter mile down the road, the vehicle in which those suspects were trying to get away is still sitting there. i've heard we can actually see it from the police checkpoint with the lights still flashing on that vehicle. law enforcement officers say they probably will not be leaving here any time soon because this is an active crime scene, amongst the other active crime scenes we know police were at. one, of course

joining me now from san bernardino is msnbc correspondent, jacob soboroff. jacob, what's happening where you are now? >> reporter: i'm a little less than a mile and a half away from the inland regional center where the shooting happened this morning. the street thereupup there call cooley, these officers just told me they've evacuated the neighborhood right up the street. this is the second neighborhood identi i've been to over the course of an hour that has been completely shut down. no in, no out. you're not seeing the kind of tactical officers we saw on this corner a little while ago, but in full military regalia, assault weapons drawn, gunners out on top of these tactical vehicles. and they are searching basically block by block. we don't know what they're searching for, but to echo blake mccoy who you've heard a little while ago, they've given us a heads up about potential explosives in the area. and our previous location actually told us to take shelter. we are further away now from the search that was going on than we were just a little while ago. >> a

jacob soboroff is also in the area right now. he is at an elementary school in los angeles.know you are joining us now via the internet. what are you experiencing there? >> reporter: good morning, jose. i'm oin the silver lake neighborhood in neighborholos a. this entire street in this neighborhood would normally be filled up with parents and students coming in to school. but i was actually stopped by a gentleman who works at the school with a walkie talkie and had radioed i was in videoing. there's obviously heightened security. people asked to stay home. los angeles school district is the second-biggest school district in the entire nation. 600,000-plus students. hundreds and hundreds of schools. as you just said, multiple languages. i think dozens of languages are spoken in the los angeles unified school district. this is affecting los angeles county which is much bigger than los angeles city. we are talking about 12 million people in the county of los angeles. again, hundreds of thousands of students and none are here at this tellmentry school this morning. >> i think th
