. >> james rosen is live. what did he say today? >> reporter: if it were true the critics word would be true saying there is no deadline. during the afternoon sit down with secretary of state john kerry extending to eight hours, the face time the men enjoyed since commencing this round of talk, iran foreign minister was asked why the new deadline was set and if it can be met. he said we didn't set any deadline. we will continue to make progress and have made progress. he confirmed the director of the international atomic agency whose technicians would perform the inspections and monitor the cameras will be visiting tomorrow to meet with nuclear officials quote on how to proceed. does that mean the talks closing in on many inspection-related issues? he would only way let him decide. >> why did the u.s. walk away at midnight? the president was willing to do that. but why not? >> reporter: that is a fair question. here is the reply reporters received yesterday from state department john kirby. >> it is extending the joint plan of actio

patti ann: james rosen live in washington, thank you. bill require' a busy monday. at the united nations the security council taking up the iran deal as we speak. a number of keep particulars take offense at that. but secretary of state john kerry saying he will try to win every vote possible. >> we would love to have it approved and hopefully we'll be able to per suede enough people. i hope we will see it on it merits. bill: why is the u.n. the stirs top on -- the first stop on this potential deal? >> reporter: moment ago the u.n. security council did vote on this resolution and it did vote as it was expected to do 15-0. as you mention the vote here at the united nations has come under a great deal of criticism from many u.s. lawmakers from both side of the aisle. the vote today not very dramatic, largely symbolic. but what it does do is get the clock ticking. the resolution will not take effect for 90 days. the u.s. congress has up to 60 days to vote on this resolution. some like democrat ben carden says a vote in washington should have taken place first. listen.

chief washington correspondent james rosen is still in vienna as the talks continue to go on. what happens if the obama administration fails to submit the terms by friday? >> then the review period congress will have will double from 30 days to 60 days. senior u.s. officials told us they would prefer the shorter review period. but in public aide to -- aides to the president express little concern. >> it's clearly in our best interest and we would welcome the scrutiny and careful consideration of the agreement. >> reporter: the law is not explicit on this point. but it seems to say if the administration waits until september 8 to submit the terms to congress then the review period reverts to 30 days. bill: we can report that united airlines flights across the country have been grounded nationwide. this a live look over lax. the issue apparently has to do with the computer or automation issue that runs throughout the system. but depending on how long this lasts, this could have a significant impact on air travel today not just in l.a., but back in chicago united's main hub. we'l

gregg: chief washington correspondent james rosen is at the white house. what is the crux of vice president biden's appeal to democrats. >> reporter: he said nothing in the iran deal takes off the table that the president has the option of using military force in the event iran abandons or violates the deal. they are in the upper chamber. republican opposition to this deal runs high. but the chances of the gop obtaining a majority in the deal are thought to be running pretty low. >> we have made a third-rate autocracy equivalent to a third world nuclear power. >> reporter: the white house is telling lawmakers this deal is the only option for the united states outside of war with iran. gregg: the president has been acting as his own salesman for the deal. notably yesterday in a session with the white house press corps, talk to us about that yesterday. it was not one of the most disciplined performances on the part of the news conference setting. not being confront with some of the iran deem. the president fished for his notes. he defended the access u.n. in
