. >> reporter: jamey rodemeyer's family barely grieving his suicide when school bullies had an insultchool dance. >> bullies just started yelling back, they were glad he was dead and they were so happy he killed himself. >> reporter: williamsville, new york, school district is saying the incident is being investigated and one student suspended. the event bullying was the cause of jamey rodemeyer's death, parents say he had been taunted since fifth grade. last month he entered high school telling everyone he was fine and making friends but the web sites his parents didn't know about told a different story with suicidal references, concerns about bullying and lots of pictures and quotes from his idol lady gaga and her anthem "born this way." >> he has a lot of friends that he would talk to. even all of those kids came to us the day of the funeral. they said he was so happy, i don't understand. >> reporter: your minister probably has told you this. the truth of the matter is probably nothing either one of you could have done that you didn't do. >> that is sometimes what finally gets me t

that was jamey rodemeyer. he lived in new york where an anti-bullying law was passed last year.differ from state to state and bullying policies differ from school to school sometimes in a district. in minnesota's largest school district, seven students have taken their own lives in less than two years. the school district is facing a federal investigation and a lawsuit from an advocacy group. the school's students say district's policies of barring teachers from talking about sexuality jeopardizes their safety at school. the school district declined to speak to us citing the ongoing litigation. they did defend the policy to cnn in april. watch. >> all the students come with parents in this community. and the parents have a wide range of beliefs. we serve them all. >> that was the superintendent. with us now, four students who are fighting back. kyle, damien, brittany and dylan. also with us jane lynch and sunny hostin. kyle, we -- i met you yesterday. you told me about an incident that happened to you in a bathroom. what happened? >> i had to use the bathroom. and i walk in the
