to meteorologist janice dean on what we're really in for. janice. >> we're reaching the peak activity in the tropical atlantic. there's september 10th when we see the most activity. so the next couple of weeks are crucial. but it's been fairly quiet so far this season. this is noaa's forecast. we have three storms and three have become hurricanes. still haven't seen major hurricane yet. that's category 3 or higher. where do we look in the atlantic for our tropical activity in september? we have the yucatan channel towards the gulf of mexico. this is the season when we see the most intense hurricanes off the coast of africa because a lot of warm water to work with and a lot of travel time here. so that is where we typically start to see some of that activity. in terms of what we are going to expect in the next couple of months, of course we are looking at the old farmer almanac which is predicting a very cold winter. but we have had a very summery, cold pattern across in the northeast and great lakes because we had this persistent trough that
