where is it headed next, janice? >> we're not done yet. actually we could see the strongest storm thus far this weekend for the northeast and the mid-atlantic. there is is the tropical storm right now, 50 mile-an-hour sustained winds. rainfall estimate, close to two feet of rain when it made landfall across the big bend of florida. watching potential for not only flooding, battering waves and tropical storm force winds, but tornadoes. tornado watch locally for parts of carolinas up towards virginia. the forecast precipitation, anywhere four to six inches plus, for the carolinas, up towards the mid-atlantic. we certainly have flood advisorieses posted for areas seeing effects of this storm. here is the track. pay close attention if you cliff across the mid atlantic and the northeast. we have dad indication what is will happen on saturday as the storm is expected to move out into the atlantic. what happens sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, we call this is the cone of uncertainty. there is a good reason we call it that, because as of sunday

senior meteorologist janice dean is tracking hermine and is in the extreme weather center. so hermine is like an american politician getting wobbley. i have to be honest we have been tracking the storm for close to two weeks and it was a hurricane, then a tropical storm and now post tropical and lingering off the coast and last night we predicted it would be very strong close to the coastline and this morning the center of the storm is more eastern than we imagined or forecast and now the forecast models are trending more toward the shore again so this is we probably one of the hardest forecasts i have ever had to deal with in my career here at fox for 13 years. if you live anywhere from the mid-atlantic coast to new england and our friends in eastern canada, monitor the progress of the storm. i was on twitter today and a lot of our meteorologist friends respond back-and-forth to each other and there was incredible video coming in from royal caribbean, robert mccue from twitter, anthem of the seas, royal caribbean, 90 knot winds, sailing to bermuda on in cruise ship. people

janice dean is with us. janice. >> you were talking about this yesterday.looding came last week but we're still feeling results of this, over 10 inches of rainfall in parts of iowa and wisconsin. look at radar precipitation, of course the rivers are just cresting now. we'll be dealing with major flood stage at these rivers until at leaves sunday. the past 48 hours look good. conditions are dry. we're really not going to see any rainfall over next couple days but the damage is done. here is the river gauge observations. major flooding at the cedar river, which crested at its second highest in history, 22 feet. so people are going to be still on edge over the next couple of days. the rivers will start to come down over, you know the next 48 hours but still at major flood stage in some cases until sunday. there is the future radar. this area of low pressure across the gulf, rather the great lakes but not getting into portions of iowa which is great news so people can start to repair, recover from this area that was inundated with upwards of 10 inches of rainfa

the storm is powerful and as janice dean reports, could intensif intensify, hi, janice. >> hi, lelanding the storm, a tornado watch in effect until 4:00 p.m. for parts of georgia and the carolinas. that will continue as the storm continues to move north and eastward. not only the threat for weak tornadoes, but we could see heavy rainfall. in florida we've gotten reports of close to two feet of rain. and in its path we could easily see six to eight, even a foot of rainfall in isolated areas. flash flood watches and warnings are posted as it continues to move north and eastward. we're pretty confident in the track up until around saturday, when it makes its way off the coast and then stalls out. and as you can see here, we call this the cone of uncertainty for a reason. we're not quite sure what it does, does it move closer to the coast, does it make landfall at some point, does it continue to meander, does it move north and east? these are questions we don't know the answers to yet. the steering pattern is high pressure that blocks the system from moving anywhere for the next 72 hours

janice dean is tracking this storm in the fox news extreme weather center. but we begin with caroline schiavoly live in kill devil hills in north carolina. what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, the rain has stopped for now but the winds is brutal. it's taking the sand and shoving it forward. it's like needles hitting you if you turn around in to it. you can see the waves are huge. the as well the swells with massive. this is the avalon fishing pier. we watched part of the roof rip off of this building earlier. the waves are coming up to the bottom of the pier. answer lu absolutely huge. you can also see the seafoam. it almost looks like a popcorn machine coming, shoving, pouring over the cars throughout the parking lot here. the major bridges in and out of the outer banks have been shut down. these winds are just too strong for people to be able to drive in and out. a tractor trailer hit the railing earlier today. a terrible accident. we have heard of at least four people being sent to the hospital for injuries. back to you. >> all right, out there in the

is it moving up the coast, janice?d. we still have tornado watches in effect for parts of north florida, georgia and south carolina. the center of the storm now crossing into georgia. we still have tropical storm warnings that extend up towards north carolina and then we get into the watches because this storm is going to exit the coastline and then just sit and spin for days across the east coast. so just off shore. and as we get further out into time a lot of uncertainty here. the one thing is for certain, we'll see heavy rainfall in the path of the storm on the order of four to six inches. maybe higher totals, i have seen close to two feet in the area. flood watches and warnings are posted. watch this, guys, as we head out further in time. this is one of the reliable forecast models as it becomes a nor'easter, we could have winds in excess of 90 miles an hour close to the coastline. this is not going anywhere fast. we'll be talking about this next week and it could be a major headache for the holiday plans this week

janice dean is in the area. this impacted a lot of the different state and people. >> we'll talk about the storm well until next week, jenna. we have seen two feet of rainfall in florida. we'll continue to see that video coming in from parts of florida and georgia and the carolinas, and the tornado in partses of georgia in to the carolinas and we'll see weak tornados with the landfall and tropical system. and monday, gaerngs incredible amounts of rainfall. and 6- 8 inches and possibly higher totals and flash flood watches and warnings are in effect. we'll talk about the storm as it exits the coast line. we think that the storm will hug the coast line here and saturday coming offshore and stalling for not just 6- 12 hours, but maybe 24- 48 or 72 hours and that means, we could see hurricane force winds off of the coast where millions of people live. this is called the cone of uncertainty here. you look to the right and left of where the storm could track. and if we have a storm sitting out in the atlantic. we'll b

meteorologist janice is at the fox weather center. what the northeast can expect. i assume not everyone is going to dodge a bullet. we are going to see heavy winds and rain up the northeast. >> we are not out of the woods just yet. as kristin mentioned well, you can't go in the water. the rip currents and waves are going to remain high. the low pressure center is a little more to the east than we originally predicted. that means less impact for the coast in terms of heavy rainfall, the waves are going to be very high. we are going to deal with storm surge. the bulk of the storm is going to be offshore. we are not out of the woods yet. if you live from the dell ma va up to new england, you need to watch the path of the storm. here are the tropical models. you are expecting the storm to slow down. because the low is further east, less impact for the northeast. i always say, i would rather people be safe than not prepared and in danger, if the storm was a huge weather maker. tropical storm force winds. most of them offshore. still need to watch this, though. we still
