let's begin with our national correspondent jason carroll in ferguson, missouri. what are you seeing there now, jason? >> well, wolf, i'm sure you can hear honking going on and you can still see some of the protesters who have already started to gather out here just as they did last night and the night before that. also out here, we've seen 50 to 60 police cars, also s.w.a.t. team on the ready. basically in anticipation of what could happen out here again tonight. police as you know, wolf, already criticized for their show of force out here last night. they were out here here with a s.w.a.t. team in heavy riot gear. they used tear gas and bean bag rounds and also used rubber bullets to disburse the crowds gathered out here last night. in terms of what's expected here tonight, protesters we've spoken to say they're going to be here in full force. police say they're going to be out here as well. last night during the melee, two journalists were arrested. both released. no charges filed. within the past hour, missouri's governor spoke out and basically said there need

cnn's jason carroll reports. >> reporter: at the first moment michael brown's parents faced the publico talk about their son, they wanted to make one point very clear. >> i don't want no violence. we don't want no violence. >> because michael wouldn't have wanted no violence. >> reporter: not helping these images. the person seen on surveillance video captured less than an hour with the fatal confrontation with a police officer. instead, these are the images brown's family says reflects who he really was. a young man who loved playing games. as much as he loved his family. one telling facebook, if i leave this earth today, at least you know how i cared about others than i care about my damn self. >> he was my first born. sweet, loving, dedicated. he worked hard to get through high school. we were so proud of him. >> reporter: and then there was his nickname. big mike, the 18-year-old stood 6'4" and weighed nearly 300 pounds. >> he had a very quiet soft-spoken voice. >> he was a gentle giant. he was big, he was careful. he cared for everybody pipe loved everything about this young man.

let's go to jason carroll now. what are you learning, jason?ianna, certainly disappointment here on the ground. a lot of ground supporters were looking for information. today an incident report was released. and brown's supporters were looking to answers, namely why officer wilson felt as though he needed to use deadly force. >> this afternoon is, st. louis county police released an incident report in the fatal shooting of michael brown. but it reveals little information to explain what happened. due to the on going investigation, much of the details have been deredacted. accounts of the incident seem conflicting about whether or not brown threatened officer darren wilson before he was shot. >> no, want to charge toward the officer, no. >> friends of officer wilson say brown did charge at him but there is no known video of the shooting to show what really happened. in the future that may change. ferguson police said today they are planning to install dashcams in their patrol cars. meanwhile supporter of officer wilson say they have raised mo ar

let's bring in jason carroll. jason, what is the latest that you're hearing from the hospital?t sinai as you can imagine are trying to get to the bottom of this diagnosis just as quickly and accurately as they can. here's what i can tell you. earlier today, a male patient who had traveled to the region in quell checked himself in very, very sick with some of the similar early symptoms of ebola, as you mentioned a high fever, gastrointestinal issues, as well. patients and doctors here basically doctors basically here are saying this patient is in strict isolation. he is undergoing a medical screening. just to give this a little bit more perspective is, cdc spokesperson also telling us that since this epidemic broke out, since last march, there have been some six patients also treated here in the united states. they had also traveled to the area in question. all of those tests with all of those patients came back negative. it should take about a day or so for tests from this particular patient to come back, but as you can imagine, a lot of worry here in new york city. the hospita

jason carroll is live inside the church where the rally will be held. jason, what's expected? >> reporter: yes, here at the greater grace church, a number of people have already started to file in here filling up all of the seats. a number of people want to come out and be together as a community and demonstrate and voice their feelings in a peaceful way. i want to bring in right now one of those people who came out with her daughter. you came out with your daughter. a lot of people here with families. i see a lot of children out here as well. there's been a week of unrest in ferguson and someone told me i'm tired. i'm weary. i'm wondering, you as a ferguson resident, what are your thoughts on this sunday? >> i think that coming out today with the family, it will be, you know more peaceful today. maybe it will set a tone if this continues for the rest of the week. >> reporter: we were talking earlier about the curfew and your thoughts about that. is that something that you agree with? not agree with? >> i think so now with school starting that this should be a curfew right now

we'll to go jason carroll who is in missouri. police are on standby. it has calmed down a bit.hat's going on? >> reporter: well, you know, a little while ago, things were really tense not far from here. we went out to the scene where we saw a number of police officers trying to disperse a crowd that had gathered near a mcdonald's. they fired tear gas. as we were standing there, they repeatedly got on the loud speaker. officers in riot gear telling people to disperse. to go back inside their homes. and most of the people we saw there were standing on their front lawns. standing on the sidewalks, obeying the law, doing what they needed to do. there were a number of agitators there and police were able to diffuse the situation to get the people to move back. they didn't want another repeat of what they saw out here last night. a violent number of people looting and doing things in that manner. what we're seeing here in front of the tv station is a small group of people who have gathered on one side of the street peacefully. on the other side of the street you have a number of offi

jason carroll is joining us now with more on the very latest. re in ferguson outside of st. louis. are more protests expected? >> well, we can never be quite sure, wolf. last night, for example, protests turned violent, at least at one point police had to use tear gas and bean bag rounds to disburse the crowd. police are ready for that again tonight. they are hoping it will not be necessary. as you know, the family has come forward asking for peace again and so far, so far at least tonight the community seems to be hearing what the family is saying. >> at that press conference that the family had, they spoke out passiona passionately. give us a little more of what they want to happen now. >> a couple things, you said at the top, the family at this point wants a couple things, more transparency. they want the investigation to be open. they want to know how it's proceeding along. second, they want to see the release of the name of the officer involved in the shooting. the police chief did say the name was going to be released today. that's what he

jason carroll sat down with troy's mom who is still trying to understand how all this happened. is the first time she's spoken out on television. jason joins us now live. so what did she have to say? >> well, basically, you know, there's so many questions about why did he make this turn. i mean that's the obvious question. anderson, the simple answer is she just doesn't know. when she looks back at what happened with her son, she knows that at around age 16 he really started to have problems, had troubles in school. started to turn to drugs. what he also did was he was looking for spirituality. he was looking for answers. he turned to the koran. i asked her about that when i spoke to her a little earlier this afternoon. >> and he found comfort in turning to the koran. >> so then he became muslim. and i don't know exactly how that happened. he had some friends who were muslims. there was some friends who were somali who had immigrated here. but he -- it was great for him. like he all of a sudden was like i have my boy back. his eyes were bright again. he was focused. he really wa

jason carroll has been here since monday. i want you to answer questions i'm getting from viewers on twitter. as somebody who has been here since monday and seen several nights of violence. >> a lot. >> what's going on with how militarized the police are, how violent are the protests? is this all this really necessary. >> first of all, when we were out here on monday, about 100 meters from where we are now, it was the same situation we saw out here last night that you saw in the video. there was a heavy police presence. there were in riot gear using tear gas and asking everyone to leave. you've seen is the neighborhood. the people were saying this it is our neighborhood. where are we supposed to go? this is my yard. where am i supposed to go. as the police came down here, it was i think shocking for a lot of us here into the media to see such a heavy police presence so heavily armed. when you think about the history here what's been happening here for years, people here really feel as though there's been a history of police u

let's begin with cnn national correspondent jason carroll. he is on the ground in ferguson. at's the latest, jason? >> reporter: brianna, you mentioned the wheels of justice are turning, but not fast enough for some as demonstrators continue to clash with bless overnight. >> after 12 days of protests in ferguson, attorney general eric holder arrived here today. >> how are you doing, sir? >> you are the man. holder is overseeing a federal investigation into the death of michael brown. he has a team of 40 fbi agents working the case. in the meantime the state's own investigation continues. a grand jury convened today to begin hearing evidence police say officer darren wilson shot michael brown in self-defense after brown grabbed for the policeman's gun. new video has emerged where an eyewitness could be heard reacting to what he saw. >> the next thing i know he's missing, started running and kept coming towards police. >> brown did not rush toward police. >> he felt the bullet graze his arm and he turned around and was shot multiple times. >> robert mccullough say he may be bia

let's begin with national correspondent jason carrol in ferguson, missouri, of course. jason, let's get the very latest from jason. >> reporter: the new security camera video released by the ferguson police department shows a confrontation with a store clerk inside a convenience store at 11:52:00 a.m. last saturday. according to police, michael brown was inside the convenience store with his friend dorian johnson, committing a so-caused strong armed robbery. police say brown aggressively pulls the clerk in close 0 to him and immediately pushes him back into a display rack. police said he stole a box of $49 cigars. there were norp weapons used. but ferguson police chief thomas jackson said the robbery was not related to the shooting incident that killed michael brown. >> this robbery does not relate to the initial contact between the officer and michael brown. >> police say they released the video of the convenience store robbery today because the press asked for it. earlier, chief jackson described what happened after the robbery. >> at 11:51, there was a 911 call from a

sinai hospital, that man in isolation, our jason carroll is there. what's the latest on his condition, jason? >> anderson, still standing by waiting for those test results, you heard reports earlier that doctors here do not expect those test results to come back for another 24 to 48 hours. at the earliest by early tomorrow afternoon at the latest by wednesday. in the interim, the patient, the male patient that checked himself in this morning, he had travelled to west africa, told doctors here that he had travelled to the region, had flu like symptoms and in an abundance of caution, within minutes he was under strict isolation, and that is where he remains at this hour. basically, what doctors are doing here is just treating him for his symptoms. trying to get the high fever down, hydrating him, that is what they're doing anderson, while they await these test result results. >> got to be so scary for him and all the other medical professionals. thank you very much. i want to check in with sanjay gupta who has been following the story of kent brantley.

we start with cnn national correspondent jason carroll. he's in ferguson. tell us the latest there, jason. >> brianna just to give this more perspective, when we were out here last week we heard from officers about these people coming out from out of town. they were here last week, they are here this week. and police are still strugglinging with how to keep the peace at night. what began as peaceful protests quickly deteriorated into chaos with tear gas and gunfire injuries to authorities and protesters. >> take a deep breath. >> and more than 70 arrests. four officers were injured and at least two people were shot. but not by police. this morning, michael brown's mother called for calm. >> we have to remain focused and we have to remain strong and the violence needs to stop. when justice is prevailed, then maybe they'll regain their trust in the locals. but right now, it's really out of control. >> attorney general eric holder is expected in ferguson tomorrow as the justice department opens a civil rights investigation into brown's death. and a local grand

sanjay gupta is standing by live in atlanta but first let's get to jason carroll who is at mt. spital for the very latest on this potential case in new york. what more are we hearing, jason? >> well, kate, those test results that you talked about, those could come back as early as today. in the meantime that male patient, that unidentified male patient is still in strict isolation. he's been in strict isolation ever since he showed up here yesterday morning complaining with flu-like symptoms, immediately after doctors found out he traveled to west africa. within seven minutes he was put into strict isolation. the chief mod call officer here says basically after examining the patients odds are it's not ebola. a health department official basically saying the same thing, but, kate, until the test results are back, doctors are not be sure. that's why everyone is here waiting for the results from the lab. kate? >> absolutely on high alert and quickly making the protocols kick into place. we'll see what the results are maybe at some point today. jason, thanks for update here in new y

jason carroll, cnn, ferguson, missouri. >> there appears to be a violent flairup in ferguson, thomaskson is the police chief there, he joins us now. >> what's the latest on the ground there tonight? we understand the riot police have been called back in. >> yes, they have, wolf, and thanks for having me on. we had a crowd gathering throughout the day at the location near the scene of the shooting and near the epicenter of the riots from last night, the crowd was gathering at the convenience store that they -- was burned to the ground during the riot lost nature. as the crowd gathered they started growing larger and larger and more agitated. they started spilling out into the street and the neighborhoods. at one point the officers on the street declared there was a riot, shots were fired into various locations in the area officers were brought in to quell the hostilities, tear gas was deployed. i don't have any further information. >> there are two very different stories emerging about what happened just walk us through your police department's understanding of the facts and what happ

i want to bring in our jason carroll, he was inside today, listening to what was a really long, very, very passionate, really memorial and service in honor and memory of michael brown. jason, what stood out to you the most? >> reporter: well, so many things here at greater grace church. some called it a rally. some called it a reviral. other people simply called it a service, a church service, whatever you want to call it, i think you hit it right on the head there passion was one thing that stood out. everyone who came out here to this particular service today, whether they were able to get inside, actually so many people showed up, poppy, hundreds of people had to gather outside. but those who were here were unified in terms of listening to the community leaders who came out to speak. they spoke about peace. they also spoke about justice. one particularly moving moment was when michael brown's cuz.stood up and spoke about the young man he knew. >> and michael brown was not just some young black boy. he was a human being. he was a younger cousin. he was a son. he was an uncle, a neph

>> jason carroll in ferguson, thank you. missouri's governor is ordering the national guard to start pulling out of ferguson saying its mission has been accomplished but can residents there afford to breathe a sigh of relief? let's turn to jake tamer also in ferguson. do you get the sense, jake, if this is the right time or is this too soon? >> it's very difficult to ascertain. i was on the ground last thursday which was a nonviolent night, the night that the captain ron johnson of the highway patrol took over. it was a boisterous night but it was not a violent night. then that was followed by friday, saturday, sunday, looting and violence. it's true at that time last couple nights here with the national guard on the ground have been relatively peaceful especially last night. i don't note what difference the national guard makes in that, what seems to me to have been most effective is the police to have been spread out throughout the area of ferguson. and not consolidated in one area in a manner that many protesters complain

. >> our own reporter jason carroll did a story on the state patrol, state troopers taking over the effortit over from local police and you could see that people did welcome that. it became more of a conversation. basically a conversation between protesters wanting answers and police saying that answers would be forthcoming. it's a slow process so we have seen some calm in the past few days, but, again, tonight it seems that things are taking a turn. you see police there on the streets armed in riot gear it seems slowly methodically pushing protesters back. we have seen examples of looting there in ferguson on florenceson street as our crew tells us on the ground looting at a family dollar tore and then also breaking into the qt tore where brown allegedly stole cigars. this qt store that was really destroyed, burned to the ground. >> there are just -- cnn is reporting there have been a couple of reports of bottles thrown and the police officers' direction. that's the only reporters we have seen and as you can see here they are just standing there. it doesn't seem like there are any members

jason carroll is waiting outside of mount sinai hospital in new york where a man who thinks he has the disease is waiting to see. obviously, dr. gupta, nancy writebol is expected to arrive there any minute now. the biggest question is what precautions are being taken during this transfer. >> yeah, that is one of the big questions, obviously, after you make sure the patient is medically stable enough for the transport, you want to make sure the team and trapters are kept safe as well. the people in the immediate vicinity who are actually traveling with her in these suits, these bioprotective suits to try and prevent any bodily fluids from ms. writebol who is sick from ebola from getting on them. that's the real goal. we know the bodily fluids of someone who is sick with the infection contains the virus, if that gets on somebody, that can cause an infection. those are the main precautions. when they get to the hospital, there is this special isolation unit we've talk about. it's basically to try and keep the person isolated from anybody else in the hospital. it's not near anyother patien

we just heard our jason carroll who has been on the ground throughout this week reporting saying evene first moments that he got there on the ground on monday morning that he was told by community member after community member this has been a long time coming, this boiling over is because of the strained race relations in this community and they are the people that live there saying that to him. can you understand the outcry? >> i live in a racially charged area and so on and so forth. if you live in an urban indoctrination center known as a city it is all at a boiling point. it has nothing to do with white police officers or black police officers. it has to do with the fact that there is hopefulessness. the people promising hope in these black communities are the black folks over them like the congressional black caucus, state reps and everything else. that is not the problem. the problem is these kids don't have jobs. their parents don't have jobs and they are struggling to get the basic stuff out of life. >> what do you mean these kids? we are talking about ferguson. we are talking

jason carroll is here and he has that part of the story.portant to focus on that. >> there are two narratives, one that the family's building, michael brown was a big-hearted lovable guy gunned down by police and a second narrative coming from police he was allegedly involved in a strong armed robbery before he got into the altercation. >> the first moment michael brown's parents faced the public to talk about their son, they wanted to make one point about him very clear. >> i don't want no violence, we don't want no violence. >> because michael wouldn't have wanted no violence. >> not helping, these images of the person seen on this convenience store surveillance video captured less than an hour before brown's fatal altercation with a ferguson police officer. instead, these are the images brown's family says reflects who he really was, a young man that loved playing games as much as he loved his family, telling a friend on facebook, if i leave this earth today, at least you know i care about others more than i cared about myself. >> he was

let's go straight to jason carroll who is in ferguson now. oughout this. we'll get to you in a moment, also to you rene marsh covering this for us there in washington. jay, you've been there this entire time. what can you tell me about what transpired last night after we had seen some peaceful nights of protests? it seemed to unravel last night. >> reporter: well, you know, poppy, so many people out here were so disappointed to see what happened here last night. we were out here until about 10:00. 10:00 last night, throughout the day. throughout the -- at least the early part of the evening, the protests were vocal, but they were peaceful. but then, once again, very late at night after about midnight things really began to turn ugly. you have this small group of agitators who make their way into the peaceful demonstrators and last night was a night they began to cause trouble again. looting the ferguson market here in the area. also sam's meat market another business also looted again last night. there are a lot of -- there have been a lot of

jason carroll is there. what are you learning? >> wolf, doctors here at mount sinai hospital are trying to get to the bottom of this as quickly and accurately as they can. here's what happened. it was earlier today this morning a patient who are home run checked himself in experiencing some of the early symptoms that one might see with ebola. he had traveled to the region. he came here with a high fever with a gastrointestinal problems, as well. the patient as you can imagine is in strict isolation. that's what the doctors here are telling us. also, he is undergoing a medical screening. i want to put this in perspective. dr. sanjay gupta mentioned this before. spokesman for the cdc says since this outbreak broke out sometime in march, there have been some half a dozen patients here in the united states who had also traveled to the region, also had similar types of symptoms underwent tests. all those tests came back negative. at this point, we are waiting for test results from this particular patient. this male patient. we are told
