jason carroll is? springfield now. jason, what are you learning now about this latest crash in. >> reporter: the ntsb is planning to hold a briefing about two hours from now, abby, at 3:00. hopefully at that point we'll get more guidance, perhaps, in terms of exactly what happened here. we can tell you in terms of the latest derailment, it occurred on saturday about 3:00. there was a man there who caught it on his cell phone just as the training were tipping off. 28 trains out of 200 cards derailed, but again we are being told there was not a release of any hazardous materials. there were some cars carries hazard out materials such as propane and ethanol, but those cars were not involved in the derailment. >> technicians will continue to be on site to ensure that there isn't any contamination that has been missed. there have been multiple sweeps by multiple teams of technicians, hazmat and ohio epa to ensure that there aren't any chemicals present in the soil, air or water that would harm the public here in clark county

cnn's jason carroll is joining us right now from springfield, ohio, with the latest. : well, wolf, ntsb investigators are here on the ground at last check. they've been meeting with both state and local officials as well as train officials here on the ground, trying to gather as much information as possible here at the scene, you can look behind me. you can see some of the railcars still on their side. ntsb investigators still in the process of gathering these cars, setting them right, and moving them out of the area. we can tell you that this is a derailment that occurred, again, on saturday at about 5:00. cell phone camera video captured what happened in those moments as the cars started careen off the tracks. 28 of 212 cars derailed. state officials say that there was no release of any chemicals due to that derailment. but, you know, this is something that people here in ohio are paying close attention to given this is the second derailment that has happened within a month. people in east palestine still recovering from what happened there. they are still in the pro

and now, jason carroll, what are the people saying in east palestine about the support of the railway company? >> well, look, there is a great deal of concern here on ground from residents, concerned about the air quality, the water quality, and the soil quality, and it is not just about the environmental impact and safety, but it is about the economic impact. we have been speaking to people here who are worried about the property values, and the businesses. the businesses that you see behind me, kate, the blue containers, and these containers are used to hold materials. and this is located right next to the derailment site. this factory owner says that the workers are so uncomfortable being here, they cannot safely work here, so this factory has for the short time all but shutdown. that is what he is dealing with. i spoke to a woman who runs a hair shop heresh and she has lost 50% of to business, and she had a specific message to alan shaw. listen to what she had to say. >> how do you make it right? i don't want to get emotional, but this is my income. this is how i raise my family.t

cnn's jason carroll is watching this for us, jason, this does come after some pressure, but how extensivere these regulations? well, i think there are a number of lawmakers in ohio who would say that the proposed bipartisan legislation is a step in the right direction . lawmakers have introduced measures as you know, in both chambers of congress in the senate. there's the railway safety act in the house. there is the reducing accidents in locomotives or the rail act. these bills call for imposing new safety standards and stiffer penalties for wrongdoing. ohio's governor says he supports it. and so should norfolk southern. out of those two bills. we all be able to get a bill that will will make a big big difference. uh, you know, i served many years in the house and the senate. i'm not going to get into the gory details about which version of the bill is better. but we just we need to change is, uh, i think either bill will do a good job. the pressure is on. governor dewine sent a letter to norfolk southern, saying it is our expectation that you will champion all good faith efforts to impr

against norfolk southern or jason carroll's on top of both of these will get to doggie in a minute.but these seven investigators that comes as huge concern to the people who live there very much and it confirms what a lot of people there on the ground were already feeling. i mean, in this latest information only came to light just after a member of cnn's health team saw posts on social media and checked with the government source about what exactly had happened, according to the cdc. seven government investigators fell ill in early march. they were part of a 15 member team that was sent there to conduct what is called an assessment of chemical exposure or an ace investigation. they went door to door in an area near the derailment. apparently seven members of the team said they started feeling sick. their symptoms included. sore throat, headaches, coughing, nausea. these are some of the same symptoms that both residents, first responders and rail workers had also complained about when cnn asked the cdc about the investigators, a spokesperson said the following quote the symptoms reso
