you mentioned jayapal. she posted a photo of him holding a piglet.heard from congresswoman ocasio-cortes poking fun not only did she endorse this pick, but also did senator manchin. somebody who never agrees with aoc. she's saying they're in disconcerting levels of array, meaning agreement, throughout the party. it might have to do with walz when he was in congress, was very moderate. bills that he supported. he really is in the center left of his party but as governor enacting and backing many progressive policies and platforms, something that bernie sanders championed and talked about on minnesota public radio on saturday talking about the free breakfast and lunches in schools. talking about his record on codifying abortion rights, on healthcare protections. bernie sanders sanders has not formally endorsed harris for president. he told me before the senate left for recess that he's going to do everything he can to elect her. certainly a pick like walz is going to make him happy and it is interesting that it is unifying the party in this way. also,

. >> almar let's talk more about this with democratic congresswoman pramila jayapal of washington. >> she's the chair of the congressional progressive caucus a caucus, congresswoman. thanks for being here. look, i know generally speaking, the progressive caucus is excited about the harris-walz ticket. is there anything in particular that excites you about the governor walz pick? >> yeah. omar, you know, the congressional progressive caucus pac endorsed the ticket yesterday in record time. and i think what really excites people is several things. one, governor walz is somebody that many of our members know and served with. this is somebody who understands the house, understands the importance of congress. secondly, i think in terms of his presence out there, people feel like he can win those midwestern states. he has already popularized a lot of terms that just resonate for ordinary americans. and we feel that he is somebody who is so down to earth and so clear about his values and his principles that he is going to connect with a lot of the folks that we need in some of these midweste

joining me now to discuss is the democratic congresswoman pramila jayapal, who's also the progressiveaucus chair and it's great to have you. we are already seeing obviously the protests outside. we know tomorrow is expected to be one of the biggest standard or six major plan protests tomorrow. do they are also going to see protest inside the convention center? >> you know, i'm not sure. i think obviously this is a serious issue for a lot of people. i do think the majority of people understand that there is a? big difference between kamala harris and tim walz and donald trump and they are here because they were uncommitted vote first, are there were biden supporters, and so i think the important thing is that the harris-walz campaign has already been reaching out to most americans, arab americans committed, voters across the country. and i think that conversation is going to have to continue, obviously, because people do want some assurance this killing and gaza is going to stop that. there's going to be a peace that respects both israeli and palestinians and if there are those protest

you don't, you don't get bernie sanders, ilhan omar, and pramila jayapal to all endorsed you. if you're not progressive and they're all behind him. so he'll have to answer for that. he'll have to answer for george floyd. an episode he admitted he said was an abject failure of leadership in that state. he's going to have to defend his record, but so is she neither of them have had to lay out an agenda or answer tough questions. chen's about what they would do or what they have done. yeah. so the good vibes will keep going for probably this week, but eventually they're going to have to answer not just to republican attacks, but to the media, to words of the summer vibes, the vibes, and of course, weird, weird. yeah. okay. so let's so let's get to weird. this mean that nothing will means nothing sara, we recall we're so cool, but i know that you can explain. i was talking to a harris adviser this morning who was saying that? yes, of course, in the last week everybody has been campaigning who really wanted including walz. but until then, it was organic one of the ways that it was

and you see bernie sanders coming out for him, you see representative jayapal, the progressive caucus leader, coming out for him, getting hints that nancy pelosi thinks he'd be a good pick so there is a push for walz, i think largely based on how effective he's been in his tv appearances over the last week or ten days or so but is that still something of a long i mean, ultimately, you don't need excitement, you don't need to excite the progressive base. harris has done that, right? you've raising $300 million and effectively a couple of weeks, you don't really have to worry about excitement. you have to worry about getting to 270 and it also the big part here reviewed be candid is do no harm, right? >> if we've seen sarah palin, she did harm, will see what how j.d. vance, as he doing harm, he had. is that a stumble when these come out of the gates that resurface childless cat lady comments talking about people in power who don't have kids criticizing them. and i put the question to republicans this past week about the number two on their ticket it was offensive to me as a woman women

the choice, for example, outspoken support from people like bernie sanders and aoc and from pramila jayapalwho's the chair of the congressional progressive caucus. you're hearing thisss balanced perspective where people should put him on the ideological number line, where republicans are saying, you know, he's to the left of chairman mao. for americans who don't know, who are juster hearing the sortf descriptions and caricatures of him today, how do you see him in terms of where he falls on the line between conservative and liberal? >> as a moderate and someone who's been attacked for that, let me make the case. his congressional district, which you pointed out well, he's second democrat in a hundred years to win it, and he won it over and over again. part of that that he didn't shy away from his votes for the affordable care act. he went out and did town hall meetings for a former republican senator who he recently lost, david durenberger. he's someone who says what he thinks. i think if you've seen him one television in it last few weeks, he's not afraid to do that. i think we need more o
