across the area during the extended deep freeze, jeanette reyes is live along cobbs creek section. >> reporter: good morning, tam, the water department cannot catch a have multiple water main breaks throughout the city. i'm trying to not to slip here because the entire road is iced over. this car is a problem for an elderly woman. if you look at the tires, the tires are glued down to the asphalt in several inches of ice along the 5800 block of hazel street. that water main was gushing throughout the street here. the ice formed and iced her car down, so she is not able to move the car. she is not sure how she'll be able to do that. this is one of five water main breaks across the city. north philadelphia, logan section, cobbs creek.

jeanette reyes has the emotional story. >> reporter: this morning hernandez children were picked up to go to school from their new home at church of the advocate in north philadelphia. they are undocumented and setting foot outside the buildings could put them at risk of immediate arrest by ice and deportation. we think positively that everything comes out good and nothing bad happens. we talked to 13-year-old katie and her 15-year-old sister minutes before he had headed off to school. i asked if she was nervous, she answered yes because of what could happen. they decided to go to school, they are anxious, they got up at 5:00 a.m. to go to school. at first i was scared, but now i feel support. feeling the islands back home in mexico, the family lived in philadelphia for two years. they were given deportationnoti.

"action news" reporter jeanette reyes is live on the scene at minden street. anette you say at the very least they've shut it off. >> reporter: they have shut it off. they shut it off a couple hours ago but matt, the thing is the crew that comes to fix the pipe doesn't get here until 9:30 in the morning. take a live look here behind me much the road is a pretty icy mess. they did have a salt truck come by and salt the road down just a bit. now it's kind of just a waiting game for that crew to come out and service can be restored to about 125 customers. take a look at this video though. it's just incredible to see one of the homes that was the most severely impacted. that water that you see there, it's actually leveled off in a drive way that dips down quite a few feet. so, we can expect that drive way to have quite a bit of flooding as well as the home next door. three homes were impacted in a similar way. so, again, 125 homes without water service at this point. and it will be about 9:30 until crews come out. we were just told that this is an 8-inch pipe that

jeanette reyes is on the 800 block of north holly street.rning, jennette. >> reporter: good morning, tam, this is the third person to die in a house fire in just a matter of days, we know a fire lieutenant died a couple of days ago, take a live look behind me, the medical examiner arriving seconds ago. take a look at the home where this happened. they are inside trying to find the cause of the fire. before we go to video, i want to show you the fire hydrant just a few feet away, despite having it here it was not enough. there are no neighbors on either side of the home or across the street. so the calls came in too late. by the time firefighters arrived they responded to the call in 3 minutes, by the time they arrived they put out the fire in 20 minutes, by the time they got inside the occupant pant was dead. neighbors say it was a woman, officials are not officially confirming that. take a listen to what they had to say about the fire and the time it took them to get this down and get inside. >> late notification is always an issue. we got

"action news" reporter jeanette reyes is live in roxborough way look at conditions here in the city. good morning, jeanette. >> reporter: good morning, matt. one of the things -- tam, rather. one of the things i've seen on cars is snow on the course, the windshields and last times they're not cleaned off. it's hard to imagine how someone can see through a little hole in the windshield so make sure you clean off your windshield especially the back. take a look here. this is what you'll find accumulating on your vehicle this morning. it's fairly easy to clean off. on the sidewalk it will be pretty slick, though. the roads they look really good. they did a great job treating this although a little treating goes a long way. the snow isn't really causing much of an issue on the roadways. i suspect that will be the case even on those side streets. it started switching over to the snow from rain about -- at about 3:15 this morning. the snow totals are expected to be much less than what, for example, trish would see over in allentown, less than an inch in the philadelphia area but it's the ti
