let me begin with you, jeff. this was a pretty stunning development this afternoon that indonesia's transport ministry says that plane was only allowed to fly that route on specific about four specific days a week not on sundays. so now they have banned airasia from flying that route right now. how significant is this? >> i don't know exactly what this means, but my internal interpretation is that so this company didn't have its paperwork all in order. that's what this means. it's not like you know for safety reasons they weren't allowed to fly this route or something. it just means that there was some permission or certificate that was supposed to be issued and it wasn't. and why is the transportation ministry now coming forward and saying oh they shouldn't have been in the air in the first place? it sounds like some sort of ma you ever noing. we should not infer that somehow this was some kind of rogue airplane that wasn't supposed to be in the air. it's just that papers weren't in order. and i don't know if yo

kron 4's jeff bush reports. >>jeff bush: neighbors are shocked at hearing the death of this girl who had everything going for her. the cause of death was to cars hitting her due to drag racing. san jose police are investigating the crash and say the two drivers involved were likeley racing. the crash happened on yerba buena road near edenwood drive around noon. the two cars crashed into each other and then drifeted onto the sidewalkcrushing a woman against a tree. she died at the scene. the two drivers were treated and arrested and charged with multiple crimes including manslaughter and recless driving. police identified the drivers as 19 year old gabriel bacerra and 24 year old manuel maldanado - avalos. the investigation continued well into the early evening. neighbors in the area say that yerba buena road is dangerousand, this is not the first time a crash like this has happened. >>:it's just really dangerous. people are always going really fast. look at it. there's no one there and see that curve right there

let's bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. the sprinkles today brought little relief. >> yeah it didn't do anything at all. and you know a lot of places didn't see anything at all. you can see the satellite/radar picture. a storm system that passed to the south really began to break up early this morning. we're just left with a few areas of cloud cover. and tonight the biggest drought we are under is the possibility of some patchy drizzle. so here is the reality of this situation. in january, no rainfall in napa no rainfall in san francisco, no rainfall in oakland, and just 0.02 inches in san jose. we are now trending drier in january than one of our driest months here in the bay area, which is june when we typically average 0.1 inches to 0.2 inches. here is another look at just how far behind we are here in january. nearly 4 inches below where we should be for this month in napa san francisco 3.75 san francisco airport just under 3.5-inch deficit and san jose just under 3.5 inches as well. so is there any good outlook for feb

kron four's jeff bush is live tonight with the details. jeff? traffic was a mess for hours because of thisprotestors determined to shut down traffic on the san mateo bridge. it all started a little before five on monday afternoon. dozens of protestors got on the bridge and stopped traffic. most of the protestors were on the westbound side of the bridge but some of them appeared on the eastbound sideit was a coordinated effort. those on the eastbound side had been dropped off in cars. the east bound side was quickly reopened as police moved in to arrest the small group on that side of the bridge but the west bound side was much more difficult to clear up. police were able to wrangle the group at the high rise section of the bridge but, you can see in this video from our aerial partners at abc 7, cars were backed up for miles and miles. the holiday light traffic that was expected was anything but light. chp sent more than 30 patrol units to deal with the protestors.in all, 68 of them were arrested but it took some time to get them into vehicles an
