joining us in morning is jeff adachi. he's here m san francisco this morning. is wanting to give us a little more information about what's going on. now, jeff joins us now to give us an update of what exactly you will be looking in to. jeff, thank you for joining us. i know you just ran awas the street -- across the street. what are your clients saying? >> well. district attorney has announced today they are gonna dismiss as many as 40 cases, maybe more. we've seen 13 cases dishe missed already. this-- dismissed already. this is the investigation a started at the hotel. there's videotape that shows police officers were engaged in illegal entries of hospitals, violating constitutional rights. these are the cases that will be dismissed. >> and how far reaching is this case? >> i think everybody is scratching their head because for many, many years people have said that this kind of activity has gone on, we've never had proof. but here we have officers on tape violating the law and this is very, very serious and i think the district attorney's decision to make thi

public defender jeff adachi launched the misconduct claims and applauds the moves. >> it's the right call. i expect there will be other cases. >> reporter: the total number of cases kicked as a result of the investigation is 57. the d.a. is taking a look at all pending cases tied to the unit. the majority of those cases dismissed involved drug use and drug sales. but 11 are robbery arrests. hammer says letting robbery suspects go is concerning. >> one robber probably committed 50 robberies before you caught him in a decoy. so really dangerous folks. so that's really, really troubling. another consequence of what's going to come out of this scandal. >> reporter: this is the second sfpd scandal that resulted in jail inmates being released. police accused crime lab technician deborah madden of skimming drugs. the district attorney tossed 700 cases linked to that investigation. with public trust and public safety in jeopardy, hammer says changes need to be made inside sfpd. sfpd says all plainclothes units will now be retrained on proper search procedure. as for all these dropped charges
