nbc's jeff rossen is on the story for us again this evening. he joins us from hoboken on the new jersey side of the river with the latest. jeff? >> reporter: lester, good evening to you. along the hudson river on the jersey side, and it's been tough for investigators and drivers today because the wreck tge itself keeps moving around under the water. the current is strong. they need that debris to recon struget the accident and put all this together. tonight investigators are using side scan sonar equipment and they're making progress. in the shadow of the empire state building, the grim search for bodies and debris. investigators recovered both today. more victims pulled from the hudson, along with a charge chunk of theightseeing helicopter. lifted to the surface with a giant crane. >> the helicopter sustained significant damage. they are going to be conducting further examination of the wreckage to determine what pieces might be missing. >> reporter: we're learning more about the midair collision and how it happened. the crash that killed nine

nbc's jeff rossen is in hoboken, new jersey with the latest. jeff, good morning. >> reporter: lester, good morning. police divers are back in the water this morning. you can see the new york city police boats behind me right in that search area. they're looking for more bodies. there are still we believe six underwater. they've only recovered three bodies so far. but they're also looking for the wreckage itself, and that's difficult because we're told the current is strong and the water is choppy. in fact, investigators and divers have identified where the helicopter is under water but they still can't find the plane. this morning, our first look at the crash scene moments after it happened. in this amateur video obtained by nbc news, you can see the wreckage floating in the hudson river. hard to tell if it is the airplane, the sightseeing helicopter or a combination of both. >> i just saw the puff of smoke and the blade fly off. >> went right in, and there was a splash, and it was completely submerged, just like that, and there was nothing else

we'll go to nbc's jeff rossen live in hoboken, new jersey. jeff, i understand you are learning a bit more about the plane and what it was exactly doing in the moments before the crash. right? >> reporter: yeah, faa sources now tell nbc news that that plane was in a climbing turn at the moment of impact. again, authorities said yesterday that they believe it's the plane that hit the chopper. really this is beginning to come together and that's happening because the ntsb investigators, teams on the ground now interviewing several witnesses. they're getting a good look at the debris. they can pretty much know exactly where the cut point was, what that means piecing this together. we understand the plane may have been turning when this happened. we're also learning the name of one of the people inside the plane, the pilot. jeremy clark. and so really this is beginning to come together now as investigators are in the water blocking out the search area. the problem with the hudson river we're told is that it is very choppy, it is a very strong curre

jeff rossen is in los angeles. what are you learning?porter: they're trying to establish the chain of custody. they want to figure out what drugs were in michael jackson's home. they know that. they look at the lot numbers on the drugs. they tell you where it was manufactured. they go back there, find out what pharmacy it went to. then that's what led them to the pharmacy. they've also learned that according to ap, that dr. murray got his propofol there. that may have been one of his suppliers. law enforcement sources tell nbc news that it was dr. murray of course who gave michael jackson the propofol the day he died. unclear though because the toxicology report and autopsy report remain sealed. exactly what was the manner of death? the thing is, the coroner knows it, the lapd knows it, they just won't tell us because they say they need more time to build a criminal case. but this search warrant was the sixth involving dr. conrad murray. >> if there had been an admission by dr. murray that he gave jackson the propofol, is there anything

and nbc's jeff rossen is outside of the courthouse. jeff, what can we expect today? things they're going to be tackling is, of course, the all-important custody deal. what will happen to michael's three children? as you know, there's been a lot of back and forth between debbie rowe, the biological mother of the oldest two and katherine jackson, the jackson family. they reached that custody deal last week and it is up for approval today with the judge. that could get pushed right through. the judge could also, you know, want to investigate more and extend it by about 30 days. there are a lot of possibilities. the going thinking is he'll probably just push it right through. the other thing they're going to look for today is a family allowance for katherine. as you know, katherine jackson, as we have reported here on msnbc and nbc news, has been asking for more money to take care of the children. her whole argument is, look, michael jackson was our sole bread winner, basically, the family lives off him and all his earnings. now that he's gone, so's the cash. we need mor

nbc's jeff rossen was in the courtroom when this happened. jeff, good morning to you. >> reporter: hey, matt, good morning to you. just when you thought custody was all wrapped up in a nice little bow, along comes dr. arnie klein, in a move that shocked the judge, it shocked the jacksons, and the entire courtroom. dr. klein's own lawyer suddenly challenged the custody deal. the judge asked why? and then the mystery deepened. dr. arnie klein just went from beverly hills dermatologist to self-proclaimed protector of michael jackson's kids. in court monday his lawyer dropped a bombshell, telling the judge, dr. klein has unique interests in michael's children, but wouldn't say what those interests are. in a statement, he said, dr. klein was acting on promises he made to michael with respect to assuring the language long-term health and stability of the children. but this out-of-the blue move only fuels tabloid reports that dr. arnie klein is really the biological father of 12-year-old prince and 11-year-old paris. >> most sources have come forward
