i'm in jefferson county.he adjacent county, orange, have seen over 50-mile-an-hour winds. the storm surge so far has been a non-event here. just walking around, you're not seeing flooded streets. you're seeing empty streets, which means for the most part people were listening to local leaders whose advice was to get out of town but don't stay here. the interstate that runs through this part of texas are empty, but portions are closed. that's closest to the texas/louisiana border. we're roughly 60 miles from lake charles. you mentioned a second ago the eye of the storm moving north toward lake charles. we're about 50 to 60 miles an hour where it first made landfall. this is an area that's probably breathing a bit of a sigh of relief, given the fact we're seeing strong winds but not necessarily the trifecta of very concerning conditions. they were worried about the storm surge and the heavy rainfall being the other two. but concerning nonetheless as we know the storms are unpredictable. the paths can change. th
