chief meteorologist jeff ranieri joins us now. jeff, this is only the beginning of the this dangerous heat. >> yeah, it is going to continue as we head throughout next week. it was just slightly sweltering out there. we shattered records. temperatures got up as high as 106 in concord, also in livermore. and one of the hottest down into gilroy, 107 today. even san jose and downtown up to 103, which was also a new record. and downtown san francisco, 95 degrees. now, we haven't seen temperatures like this since 2017 for august this widespread, so it's been a couple of years. right now take a look at the heat. we're holding on to 84 degrees in livermore. that's close to where we should be for the daytime high. so we are not cooling off really all that much this hour. heat warning in effect until next wednesday. these areas in red over fairfield, vallejo, concord, livermore, san jose, and morgan hill will all see temperatures ranging 96 to 104 on and off as we head into next week's forecast. look at this. tomorrow morning, 9:00 a.m., s

let's get right to our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. jeff, what are you seeing? >> yeah, a lot of moving parts here. i wanted to start off with that heat warning first, which begins tomorrow. and it's extended all the way through wednesday of next week. i want you to focus in on this red color here through vallejo, concord, livermore, san jose, and morgan hill. that's where temperatures will be the hottest, ranging 95 to 109 degrees. so some very dangerous heat again on the way. the other thing we've been dealing with is some humidity moving up from the south. you can see some of these storms here to our south. no lightning right now but there is a slight chance tonight into tomorrow that a little bit of that could hold up here for parts of the coast and the south bay. now, on top of this, with the heat on the way and isolated lightning in california, our fire danger is also increasing. up to 100 tomorrow. that is the high category. so we'll talk more about this prolonged heat event and i'll show you how close we'll get to some all-time record heat in the east ba

let's bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. jeff, what can we expect?re you seeing any of that lightning and high wind just yet? >> i'm seeing some lightning strikes down towards the central coast. for us we have had a few spotty showers but no lightning strikes. so there's a little bit of good news right now, although the threat of isolated lightning will continue into tomorrow. and that's when i want to underscore right now is that our red flag fire warning is in effect until 5:00 p.m. monday. we're getting a lot of text alerts. you're hearing a lot of information from your neighbors, your friends. i just wanted to set you straight on exactly what we're dealing with. and that chance is for the entire bay area from the north bay to the south bay where these isolated lightning strikes could spark more fires. the best tool to see thunderstorms, you'll notice here we do have some green, some areas of rainfall. that's moved through some quick-moving showers. now this looks a little bit worse than it is because the lower atmosphere is relatively dry. so a l
