first up we check in with jeremy reiner. >> jeremy: we have a blizzard warning in effect until 1:00 a.m., cape cod, martha's vineyard and nantucket. on the south shore, south coast, it's a winter storm warningen city of boston it's a winter weather advisory. blizzard criteria for the cape and the islands, not because of the amount of snow, which will be impressive, but more about the reduced visibility. under a quarter mile or even lower for three consecutive hours. they've had those conditions on nantucket this afternoon as well as the cape for a few hours, as well. so on the doppler radar, it's been a fight as you come off of the cape. around metro boston, dry air out of new hampshire has been trying to hold off the snow bands coming in from the south shore. that fight is now losing ground. so the snow overspreading the that, and this is where we have the steady snow focused on the cape and the islands. dry air up across vermont and new hampshire. eventually starts the shove the storm back out to sea. but it's a she process. look at the snowfall totals. oak bluff, eight inches of snow

let's get a check of the latest with jeremy reiner. >> reporter: we have a dry air in new england. clear and cold tonight. and through the day tomorrow. lots of sunshine. thanks to high pressure which plays a role in the path of this storm. this is a mega storm in the making. moving along the gulf coast states, heads for the eastern seaboard. here is the area of high pressure and it's really not going to move all that much. and when these areas of high pressure, they get stubon they're something fierce to move by means the low is going to have a hard time coming up to new england. it's going to be a glancing blow. the thought process is the same. new england is on the northern edge of the storm system. the entire event, as we work through the day on sunday i think we're going to see developing sunshine quickly on sunday. you notice the h. and the l. what we'll feel the effects will be a fair amount of wind for everyone. the amount of snow that will be most likely confined to saturday evening there will be pockets of light snow and flurries. patches of light snow with the steadiest

meteorologist jeremy reiner is here with more. >> reporter: i can't wait to learn as well. 20s and 30s those are the winds gusting 25, 35, wind chills down to the single numbers. it feels like 7 in boston, worcester feels like 1. you have a cold evening. the wind is with us for the next couple of hours and the it'll fade away. now the storm where is it? it's just now getting to the west coast which has made the forecasting of the storm very challenging because the information that goes into our weather models it's in the as good when it's over the ocean as opposed to when it's over the land. the storm will move ashore west coast which will help but these are the possible scenarios that we talk about. there will be plenty of cold air in new england through the weekend. a storm will form. that much we're confident of. and it'll move through the middle atlantic states friday and during the day on saturday. then the challenge is which tract does it take. if it takes track one it would be up to new england. that would be a significant storm for southern new england. we would be talking seve

jeremy reiner is live. >> boston at 49 with a mix of clouds and sunshine. southwesterly breeze helping to warm things up. norwood right now at 50 degrees. bedford at 59. cape and the islands, the news are in the middle 50s. have seen a couple sprinkles at times. it is a weather system that is able to generate clouds and a bunch of mild air up and down the earn seaboard. technically there's a cold front but there's not much cold air behind this weather system. it's not like we have an arctic blast heading into new england tonight and tomorrow. detroit 35. buffalo at 34. but i think what will happen is that as we roll into tomorrow, the coldest of the air stays away from new england. today but above normal. cool breeze at times, lower 40s. thursday partly to mostly sunny skies, low 40s. a threat of a couple of snow flurries friday afternoon, not a big deal, and that seven-day is loaded with more mild air. we'll talk about that more in a few minutes. >>> last weekend's winter weather leaving the midatlantic stunned. crews are still digging out after the nightm

meteorologist jeremy reiner joins us now with the answer. >> yeah, right now the thinking is that new england is on the northern edge of this powerhouse storm. i think the brunt of the storm will be to our south, south of new england down toward the mid atlantic states. but south of the masspike, you folks are most likely to pick up any significant snow. there will be a drastic cut-off to the accumulating snow, which we usually see in these big storms. in new england right now we do have a few clouds and leftover wind for the next couple of days which will carry this weather system down in the mid atlantic states out to sea. but this the event is over here. a lot of energy. there's no short an of moisture with this storm system and no shortage of cold air either. but it's the code high pressure that i think helps us out because this thing is robust not going to move. it's going to block the storm from barreling up into new england. and even with a more southerly track, i still think there will be some snow and wind to contend with here on saturday night and sunday morning. with the mo

let's head over now to meteorologist jeremy reiner who's been tracking this all day long. >> yeah, the thinking is that new england is still on the northern edge of the storm. right now i would say the middle atlantic states they are under the gun for a powerhouse storm. we're going to be right on the fringe of that storm and usually you see a drastic cut-off to the accumulating snow and that's an all or nothing situation, the nothing might line up in boston motion likely new hampshire and farther south to the south coast, probably those locations they have the best chance of accumulating plowable snow, at least 2 inches of snow, and the timing looks to be late saturday evening, overnight saturday night and sunday morning. so here in new england, again, we've got clouds, actually some snowshowers in the mid atlantic states but that's not the storm system. it's over here, now coming out of the rockys and into the southern plaines and it will southern plaines and really intensify as it reaches carolina during the day on friday and especially friday night and saturday. meanwhile, we'll ha

here is jeremy reiner . >>> very good point there. right now 30's to around 40. cloudy skies and there will be a couple of pockets of drizzle overnight tonight and very early tomorrow morning. in fact two storms we're watching for you. the first one is not that far away but it weakens significantly. there is rain right now, cleveland, pittsburgh heading for buffalo but it falls apart so much other than some patches of drizzle tomorrow morning, some is essentially a dry day a lot of clouds. over here is the real deal. back into texas and this will be a storm system that really winds up and brings a lot of rain, wind to the coast lynn and also warm i. so no concern of snow or ice. storm time line moves the rain into new england probably midday on sunday and out of here early sunday evening and then a cold england early next week but what we know so far again plan on about an inch of rain for everyone mid sunday afternoon and also winds in the coast lynn may be a little feisty. there may be minor power disruption sunday between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. along the coastline
