steve jerve continues our team coverage. and steve, our entire weather team was live on the air for hours with this storm. >> yeah, we were tracking this rotation offshore and sometimes it can touch the ground and sometimes it goes back up into the clouds. we saw that several times this afternoon but we were tracking the rotation well offshore, some 40-miles and that indicates a tornado or water spouts in there. most of it has cleared the area. the rain that is. threat is essentially over for today. and we are headed to quieter weather this week. and today tomorrow report, tornado reports up in the southern part or the northern part of charlotte county. this one, this tornado moved through open fields. that was observed by some of the plant workers there. and farther south, you can see the tornado reports there out of murdock. again, trees down and obviously you saw the damage from eagle 8. those legitimate tornadoes. but we track the rotation. as we mentioned, sometimes this can be at the upper-level and tornado. we saw the

chief meteorologist steve jerve joins us now. you were busy, you predicted it yesterday and sort of came to fruition yesterday. >> we talked about the possibility of strong thunderstorms, high wind gusts and the potential for tornados. enough wind shear in the environment. these are some of the storm reports getting some high wind gusts out of pinellas county here, this tornado around duet area and of course the port charlotte area. the national weather service in ruskin has done a survey and determined what they are calling the murdoch tornado had .2, 210th of a mile path. the second one an ef1 tornado with 97-mile-per-hour winds was travel for florida tornado. but this is the time of year when we have these type of tornados and, of course, enhanced by this el nio phase that we have been in so that one officially an ef1 tornado with 100 yards wide path. there were several others reported up around desoto county, crossing over areas that were uninhabited, marsh, forests, et cetera so not a lot of population areas except for obvio

meteorologist steve jerve joins us from the weather center. >> the morning commute is the timing of it. there are no watches in place, but are severe thunderstorms occurring across parts of the lower south. mississippi, louisiana, alabama. but for now, we are enjoying very nice warm weather. it is tomorrow morning for the commute time when we are really watching for the approach of a line of thunderstorms associated with a cold front. new orleans has reports west around the kenner area of tornado touches. we are seeing on social media. pictures coming in of what appear to be a tornado damage. right now, these are the warnings in place. several tornado warnings east of laurel, mississippi. north of mcclain, mississippi. then north of slidel. this is all moving off to the northeast. this is part of a larger complex that will eventually drag the cold front through here tomorrow morning. things are quiet. the severe weather says a slight risk of potential severe weather for the bay area. most of the bay area, marginal risk further south. we have to remain weather aware starting from 6:00 a

jerve. >> an intense line of thunderstorms could move onshore sometime tomorrow morning. probably not as intense as what you just saw. and there are currently no watches in place like there is for the panhandle. a bigger picture shows this area of low pressure producing that clockwise rotation. so much so dragging the cold air on the northwest side, some snow there in the northwest part of arkansas. that red area indicates a tornado watch. new york west of pan -- severe thunderstorm warning west of panama city. we see a line of approaching thunderstorms along a cold front extending off the southern part of that area of low pressure. the storm prediction center has us at a slight risk for thunderstorms. that would include the tornadoes sometime tomorrow morning. 7:00 am to about noon. then probably early afternoon for the inland areas. this is the high-res model. that's around 8:30 am, nature coat areas. we do see on this model an indication that these thunderstorms that are individualized may indicate the possibility of supercells. so just a heads up until tomorrow early

storm team 8 chief meteorologist steve jerve joins us now. we're talking about several tornadoes. >> and large tornadoes, ef3, we'll know more when we start to see -- greater. we'll know more when when he start to see the damage -- when we start to see the damage tomorrow. a large tornado touchdown down in pickens county about 45 miles west of tuscaloosa. there are reports of damaged homes, downed tree and power lines, wedge tornadoes extremely destructive and wide at the base. also getting our first look at the damage of a federal prison in pickens county. the roof you can see is mangled. authorities were just getting to the scene to make sure everyone was okay. people in the area were urged to take shelter. there have been no reports of casualties so far. >>> incredible severe thunderstorms and good early warning in that area. the tornado watch was issued and, of course, tornado warnings have been issued along the way. this is part of a larger storm system causing snow to the north. you can see throughout the day the line of thunderstorms a

. >> that's right, steve jerve and i were on facebook live from about 2:00 a.m. to 3:30 as the storms rumbled through the heart of the tampa bay area. look how quickly it's pushing to the east now along the east coast of florida getting worst of it. dry from lakeland north all the way up to crystal river at this point. and even dry now in manatee county. so i talked about the tornado watch being canceled early for everyone except in highlands county where you still have the tornado watch which just means that conditions are still there that might be a tornado. but not happening in polk county because the rain is coming to an end. north port, you're finally ending your rain in sarasota county, pushing quickly over into highlands county. until the rain exit, you will i doubt you will see any tornadoes and i'm almost positive that they'll expire that tornado watch for highlands county much earlier before 8:00 this morning. because look at this, the forecast model going forward almost one hour, almost all the rain is already gone. this is 7:30, just a few clouds left

steve jerve and i were on facebook live all morning long starting about 1:30 until the newscast started. intense portion was moving through hillsborough and pinellas county. and now it's pushing farther and quickly to the south. so from tampa north, things are dry now. and once you get into polk county and south and east where the rain continues. and the tornado watch has been canceled. it was in effect for pinellas, pasco, hillsborough and manatee. that's been taken away. and we still have the watch until 8:00 a.m. for polk, sarasota, hardy, desoto and highlands. i suspect it will get canceled before 8:00 a.m. look at this, western manatee, western sarasota dry. this is pushing to the east. and over through highlands county at this point. let me show you how we move forward in time. this is the forecast for 4:30, so as you go forward, just one hour, we are dry in sarasota. and almost dry in polk county. one more hour, about 6:30, a drop or two of rain in that, clearing out for the rest of the day. so about two more hours where we have to deal with this before we dry out, 71 today. in w

steve jerve joining us now in the forecast center which has been a very active place all day. did you see the cars, steve? i mean, they were supposed to be in the driveway and they are in the yards and up against the house. this thing really hopscotched and moved around. >> yeah, that's what tornadoes can do. if it's an ef-0 or an ef-1, it can certainly move those cars television and warnings you about tornadoes watches and warnings and in fact lives have been lost in the state of florida. again, you see the winds are from the northwest. that's an indication of the changes with cooler air headed our way. and note the rainfall there at .44. the best we can tell that the rainfall may have gone up to as much as an inch of rain but generally around .950 or less at most locations. today's storm report, farther south into charlotte county, we saw a couple tornadoes touchdown. this one here around duet in the northeast part -- -- this one here. and up around the harbor heights area doing the damage we were talking about. we saw the signature travel for some 40 miles here. and sometim
