let's check in with jessica burch. >>> it's another dry day in the bay area. today high pressure is just offshore keeping temperatures nice and above average and mostly clear skies throughout the bay area. tonight we will see coastal clouds along areas like pacifica, half moon bay. partly cloudy skies are rolling in wednesday and rainy skies are moving in into thursday and friday. i will show you why that's happening in a second. high pressure is keeping us nice and dry and temperatures are in the 70s in the inland areas, 60s along the coast. this area of low pressure dips into the bay area in a our thursday forecast bringing cooler weather. the 70s quickly turn to 50s for example with gustier conditions and rainy skies in the bay with snow in the sierra lasting into the weekend's forecast. that system will continue to track to the east heading into the weekend. we'll dry up in the bay heading into the weekend but it's worth noting it will feel cooler into the weekend and early next week. climate prediction center showing temperatures below normal into the wee

let's check back in with meteorologist jessica burch. >> as of yesterday, all of the sierra is sitting above average for snowpack this season, which is pretty impressive. last winter was even more impressive with 17 atmospheric rivers that swept throughout the state of california. we have a trough of low pressure dipping its way down, impacting us tomorrow and giving plenty of snow to the sierra. that system will bring in lots of rain forest tomorrow morning but starting off today, cool and cloudy conditions filling the bay area. the winds sweep in from the north, gearing up for the rain to impact us tomorrow morning with some moderate pockets of rain. it is so cold that this area of low pressure is moving in from the gulf of alaska and we could see some snow in the higher elevated areas, stretching over to mt. hamilton by lunchtime. we will continue to watch that first band of rain sweep into the sierra. the center of this area of low pressure is just offshore and it swirls its way in to central california, heading into the evening hours on thursday, leaving behind some unsettled weat

let's check in with meteorologist jessica burch. >> some clouds hanging off the coast with sunshine into our inland areas. that is the forecast with 70s and store. daytime highs in our inland areas too. once we head into wednesday, we start to see some clouds just ahead of a cold front that will move in , heading into thursday. this cold front is interesting. it will bring in temperatures down into the upper 40s and lower 50s for our daytime highs by thursday. it brings in a series of showers and such cool temperatures and higher elevated areas like mt. hamilton. we might see a little splash of snow and it will be snowing into the sierra too him this same storm system. the good news is, once that system moves its way through, we are only seeing rain and then it starts to clear up. friday, it is clear. daytime highs will look a lot different into thursday. like i mentioned, upper 40s and lower 50s. compare that to what we have today. today is gorgeous. we are seeing 70s once again near concord and antioch , low 70s in redwood city. we dropped 10 degrees over the mountains over to half moo

let's get over to meteorologist jessica burch. >> it is a dry day throughout the bay area but we are gearing up for some rain gearing up late tonight, early tomorrow morning. ahead of that, we will see clouds in the forecast. it is not until midnight tonight where we see the first band of rain impacting the bay area near san francisco, stretching up into the north bay with some heavier pockets of rain isolated in the center of that first band. watching the storm track off into the east into the early morning hours tomorrow, many of us will be sleeping during this time but it is worth noting if you are an early riser on the weekend, you will be dealing with really active weather. here we go all the way into the afternoon hours. notice how the first band moves off into the sierra and we are left with some hit or miss showers around 1:00. this is a pretty impressive storm, giving us over half inch of rain throughout the bay area. we will continue to watch more showers develop into the evening hours tomorrow night, getting us over an inch throughout the coastal areas and then it moves it

let's get over to meteorologist jessica burch in our virtual weather studio. did you have to walk chopper in this this morning? >> no. i made my boyfriend do it. let's take a look at what is going on outside. heading into this afternoon, we have been dealing with this cold front holding and from offshore . we have been forecasting this all week long. such a change for us in the bay area. two days ago, 70s and sunshine. today we deal with this mess. right now, the sender of that area of low pressure bringing in all this rain is sitting offshore. as we take a look north, there is some snow just north of napa and sonoma and we are watching similar trends into the santa clara valley with drier conditions near the santa clara valley and monday of snowballing your mt. hamilton. as we take a look at the snowfall totals, there could still be another inch of snow expected at those peaks all the way down. this has been a very impressive cold front. today, our daytime highs in the 50s things to that system sitting just off shore. you can see the center of low pressure ci

meteorologist jessica burch has more from the virtual studio. >> reporter: we have beautiful weather to kick off the workweek. who could ask for better conditions. and from this morning all the way back this afternoon, seeing wind gusts up to around 15 to 20 miles per hour. it is going to take a couple more hours until we start to see the evening hours tonight and left with lighter conditions. match that with them sitting offshore, the reason why we're seeing clear skies all day long with a few clouds down in the south bay, letting off just in time for the eclipse. now here we go into the afternoon hours and the evening hours tonight continuous clear conditions, which is just perfect for a week like this. let's take a quick look at what's happening for the daytime highs today, despite that yes it is breezy into the afternoon hours. this is a perfect spring day for us in the bay area with low 60s along the coast. upper 60s in san francisco and the bay bridge in oakland with 70s up into the wine country. a little more off to the east now from antioch over into livermore. low 70s in the

jessica burch as your forecast. >> it is gusty and it is wet and we see snow and are higher elevatedas. this is like the best version of a first alert weather day we could possibly have this year. let's break apart the forecast and talk about why this is happening. this system is a cold front moving in from the north. daytime highs today will reflect that and we are topping off in the 50s for a daytime highs. to add to that we notice widespread showers all throughout the bay area at this point. this band of rain moved this way and slowly throughout the peninsula and it is impacting the east bay with moderate rain. try to that for the higher elevated areas we see some snow. let's take a quick look at what is going on for friends in the east bay. a lot more active weather compared to the coastline. early this morning we saw the exact same and all the y with gusty conditions anywhere up to 20 or 30 miles per hour. into this year, not sierra. to mt. tam and into mt. hamiliton we have been seeing snow all morning long at the pizza we will continue to see that as we head into the afternoon

let's get right to meteorologist jessica burch. >> it is not looking bad right now. taking a live look behind me, we see blue skies and a little bit of clouds along the bay shoreline. her now, even though the game is starting tonight and there is a chance of showers, it is pretty promising that it will be a beautiful one for us. yesterday storm that came and brought in a series of showers. that storm is starting to decay. we are still seeing that circulation and speckles of showers hopping through the inland hours. as we take a look at the coast, relatively dry conditions, a similar trend down into the santa clara valley. there is some rain falling and we will keep a close eye on that. taking a live look at what is to come, we watch a little bit of these on and off showers him our inland areas and potentially into marin county but these are light compared to what we had yesterday and this will continue to move to the south, clearing up into the overnight hours tonight. one thing the storm did, which was interesting, is that is a cold front. it brought in cooler tempe

meteorologist jessica burch is in the virtual view studio with how long this will last. >> it is one of the warmest days we have had so far in the bay area with high pressure sitting directly off shore, driving in some really warm temperatures. winds from the north and a mix of sun and clouds throughout the afternoon hours today. for everyone in our inland areas that is thinking, is this summer already, in a way, it seems like that. we are talking about 80s this afternoon but it is about 10 degrees above average. getting a good look at our local communities, 71 in san francisco. upper 60s along our coast. a little bit of the clouds holding on tight to the coastline and along the bay shoreline. for our inland areas, plenty of sunshine into this afternoon. we will see 80s in the forecast again tomorrow in our inland areas but i will not be the case into the weekend. we get the cold front moving in by early next week, bringing in more clouds, a light chance of showers late next week but for now, we are remaining dry. that is the reason why our pollen count is still high. lasting into th

meteorologist jessica burch joins us now.e us a look at the conditions people have dealt with so far and what they can look forward to unfortunately. >> i know, so active for the past couple of days here in the states and check out the video out of rockdale county in georgia. this happened -- this is what happened to a home in the path of a powerful twister. you can see the winds ripped up that tree and knocked it on top of the roof there. and over into west virginia we go, a destructive storm passed throughout charleston toppling the trees there and you can see just how strong the winds are in this video. now the national weather service said that radar indicated that there was a tornado in the area. and it has been such a wild week for a lot of people in the states. back here in the bay area, we're pretty fortunate. our storm system that's coming in into our forecast tomorrow, is not nearly as -- well, it's not expected to be nearly as destructive as other portions of the states. mind you we have way different microclimates

jessica burch joins us now and you have that to show us this morning. >> i know such a terrible time eclipse to come throughout the states too because a lot of people are going to be seeing cloudy skies for a bit and a lot of people were hoping to get into the swing of spring. but it looks like for many people all throughout the u.s., they're dealing with winter still. check out this video in oklahoma. weather officials issued widespread severe weather warnings as baseball sized hail fell overhead. and folks all the way over in illinois saw their fair share of bad weather yesterday as well. strong winds and heavy rain whipped throughout their state. as people braced for the possibility of hail and tornadoes. now back here in the bay while they were dealing with that, the worst that we had was what? sunshine and 70s. and then we had some even better weather in the afternoon hours. gosh, yesterday was gorgeous and i will say this. the pollen count is still high and that's worth noting and i mean you can hear a little bit of the scratchiness in my voice and we're been talking about it a

so that is something we have to work on and bouncing in is jessica burch to talk about the weather.bsolutely. good morning. yeah, we're going to see a mix of sun and clouds in the forecast for us this afternoon. but one thing worth mentioning we're also going to warm up a lot in this afternoon. our daytime highs today, let me just tease ahead and weathering 70s from 80s from san francisco off into the east bay and for the friends near redwood city. about eight degrees above average today. 15 degrees above average in san jose a beautiful day for us. and we're waking up to beautiful sunrise already. that's our live cam from our black mountain cam. it's stunning right now throughout the santa clara valley. but we do see some of that fog creeping in along the coastal areas and it's going to be a dry i day for us today. so keep that in mind. our pollen count is relatively high and we're actually in the high category today and tomorrow. it's starting to decrease into that medium category heading into this weekend. and here's the big reason why. we have a big change in the forecast for us
