jessica schneider reports. >> reporter: we're capping a week where yet another special counsel has been appointed by the attorney general, this time to investigate classified documents found at president biden's home and private office. our team has learned that the documents state from biden's time as vice president and specifically ten classified documents, they include u.s. intelligence memos and briefing materials that cover topics like ukraine, iran and the united kingdom. this newest special counsel, robert hur, he is specifically tasked to look into the potential unauthorized removal or retention of those classified documents and potential criminal probe. but of course current doj guidance is that sitting president cannot be charged with a crime. so the attorney general explained the spkecial counsel appointment was warrant because of the extra circumstances because another special counsel is investigating president trump for possible obstruction of any attempts to return the large amount of classified materials found at his problems and of course also the doj is trying to distan

. >> it has been three years almost, jessica schneider joins us now.rticularly good news when they like to hear it from themselves, in our own voice. >> this is a bit of return to normalcy that has been unsettled, after the leak. now they are back on the bench and announcing these opinions. and just for viewers at home, for past three years now when these opinions have been auns noed, the justices haven't taken the bench as they previously did throughout supreme court history because of covid. they were not in the courtroom. they were only released electronically. but today for the first time the justices were back on the bench announcing two opinions sort of under the radar cases. one was a dismissal, one involved veterans disability benefits. but amy coney barrett abdid tak to the bench to read part of what was a unanimous majority opinion in the veterans disability case. what is interesting here, jim, is this is the longest in supreme court history it has taken the court to actually release an opinion for the first time in its term. >> interesting.

. >> jessica schneider joins us live now with the details. this is really interesting.n the break, state supreme court word on this is final in the state of south carolina. >> it is. the takeaway here is that this can't be appeal and that south carolina actually now must allow abortions up until 22 weeks. it is one of the other southern states allowing that much time so there is no path to appeal here since this was a matter of state constitutional law. this was decided by the state's highest court. there is no avenue to appeal. it did not invoke federal law. the governor here, republican henry mcmaster saying they're going to look at legislative options to try to bring this six-week ban back or some semblance of it back. but given the state supreme court's ruling here this could be a tough road. the ruling was 3-2 and the majority of the court rules in particular that state's constitution right to privacy prohibits this abortion ban in the early stage of pregnancy, about six weeks, way before many women even realize that they are pregnant. so the court here said that t

jessica schneider is here with more.states are already taking action. >> reporter: we're seeing this rush of activity, john, from republican-led states even fully banned abortion or significantly restricted. in the past week we've seen a flurry of activity so in wyoming state republicans introduced a full ban complete with criminal penalties for doctors who perform abortions that includes medication abortion, in nebraska we've seen a six-week ban proposed, plus on the first day of their legislative session earlier this month virginia republicans introduced a 15-week ban and i'm told now that more is coming. i talked to a powerful pro-life lobbying group. they have drafted model legislation that completely bans abortions with criminal penalties. i'm told that was the template for wyoming's bill and that more republican state lawmakers are set to introduce similar all-out bans in the coming weeks and really this avalanche of activity is happening because legislatures are now in the first full session since the supreme cour
