jessica yellin is there now. what is the likely message that the president will be delivering to that crowd there? >> reporter: we expect that the president will talk about the jobs message that we have been hearing across the state, drawing contrast between his philosophy and romney's. and again driving home this new attack on the romney/ryan medicare plan. he has unveiled new broad side critiquing the ryan plan, the newest ryan version of the budget unveiling a harvard study that he says shows that future and current seniors will pay more under their medicare plan. this budget we should point out, this analysis is conducted by somebody who used to be an obama campaign adviser and is a democrat. any day that we are focused on medicare is a time we are not focused on jobs and the economy so that is a plus for team obama. >> i wonder if the obama camp has reacted at all to earlier today mitt romney was heard and seen on "meet the press" saying instead of repealing the president's health care plan that he would be

our chief white house correspondent jessica yellin has been listening to the speech and, jessica, i wonderident's speech enough to silence his critics? >> reporter: his critics in a campaign season will endlessly come at him, so no doubt this will not silence them, but i do think there was a point in that speech where he did manage to strike that careful balance where he spoke both to a global community about -- on the topic of libya about the -- how offended the u.s. was and how offended he was by the video, that it does not represent american values, that the u.s. is a place that embraces diversity and diversity of religion is part of what founded this nation, but then he made a turn and explained to the global community that this is also a nation in which freedom of speech is enshrined in our identity, and even he accept that is he is criticized on a daily basis and serves as president to protect that value. so this is one of those rhetorical moments in the speech where he was able to articulate american values in a way that can reflect well here in the u.s. and abroad. i think that he

jessica yellin, our chief white house correspondent, is getting some news for us. you learning as we await the gavel? >> hi, wolf. i'm learning from three democratic sources that at the top of the hour when the convention is gavelled in they will change the platform for the democratic party to reaffirm the language reinstating israel as the capital -- sorry, reinstating jerusalem as the recognized capital of israel. as you know, when the convention came to order yesterday they adopted a platform that had lost that language, which had been the official language in 2008. and that raised the hackels. it was an issue many in the party felt they didn't need because it didn't reflect the actual values or beliefs of this administration, i was told, or of the party. i was told in meetings today they decided they saw no reason not to change it back. and so at the top of the hour by what's called i'm told acclimation, that will simply re-add that language back into the party's platform. jerusalem will be recognized as the capital of israel, wolf. >> what about the omission of

jessica yellin is standing by. she reported the news even before the amendment was made.s to the platform in reference to jerusal jerusalem. you just heard governor strickland say that president obama recognizes jerusalem as the capital of israel, a flat statement like that, that will now be in the platform. also they reinserted the word god in the platform. he asked for a voice vote and it was ambiguous a few times. i think he had to ask for that voice vote three times before he said it was approved. but this is going to cause some angst out there i suspect. what do you see? what's going on over there? >> well, it's clear that they did not brief their delegates on what was going to happen before they made the announcement so they had some yeses and some nos. there was a sense this was a self-inflicted wound they had time to repair. it's not consistent with the president's position in the past to adopt the new language, so they went ahead and made the change. one point i'd make is the god language is going back to 2008 so it's now the same language in 2008. the jerusalem

jessica yellin sat down for an in depth interview with the president.he is giving us a preview now. >> right now it's easy to get caught up in the little spats of the campaign news cycle. we look at major events that shaped the last 3 1/2 years, the president's time in office. one of the recurrent themes is the partisanship in washington especially meaningful because in 2008 the president campaign saying in part that he would heal the bitter divides in washington and around the country. so in my interview with president obama i talked to him about why he hasn't built more relationships with some of those washington insiders who could have helped get his agenda through. >> sometimes michelle and i not doing the circuit and going out to dinners with folks is perceived as us being cruel. it has more to do with us being parents. when we are in town here in washington in the evenings, 6:30 we want to be at the dinner table with our kids and i want to be helping with their homework. i think sometimes that is interpreted as me not wanting to be out there slapp

our chief white house correspondent jessica yellin keeping an eye on that for us. jessica, the latest polls give obama a slight lead in florida. you were actually a local reporter there, so you're pretty familiar with the voters in that part of florida. what does the president need to do to widen that gap? >> reporter: hi, randi. well, i was, and since i was in this local market, the number of hispanic voters here has increased exponentially. and so, one of the goals for the president, no doubt, will be to target his appeal to those hispanic, latino voters. as you know, he passed a version of, used his own power to do his own version of the dream act, has gone over very well with latinos. and also, he has targeted parts of the obama care health care measure, enormously popular among latino voters as well, among democrats, democratic-leaning latino voters. so, those are two ways he can win some of the people in this i-4 corridor. that's exactly where we're traveling in the next two days, across florida from west to east, and this is considered the swing part of flori

chief white house correspondent jessica yellin is waiting for his arrival. jessica, good morning. obama is selling his message, too, right? so, what groups is he targeting? >> reporter: hi, randi. well, here in the state of florida, as you mentioned, an electoral-rich state that would really help the president, get him over the edge to the 270 he needs to win. a couple of key demographic groups. latino voters heavily based in this part of florida. also, of course, seniors dispersed throughout the state, but here and on the east coast. then young voters, all of them demographic groups, constituencies that he targets everywhere, but especially rich in florida. randi. >> and why here at a college campus? is that to get those young voters? because they haven't been showing him the love like they did in 2008 so far. >> reporter: that's right. you know, in 2008, we all talked about the youth vote. what really happened there was young voters turned out in about the same numbers, but more of them went for president obama than they have gone traditionally for one candidate over another. th
