i'm jim acosta in washington. we begin this hour, with the rising death toll from the tornado outbreak that has ripped across much of the south and midwest just minutes ago, officials in illinois confirmed for more storm related deaths, the overall death toll over the last 24 hours now jumps to 21 lives lost more than 50. tornadoes have been reported in seven states. in the south and the midwest. the state of emergency now blankets, much of arkansas and the national guard is rolling into devastated communities. there are reports of at least a dozen tornadoes touching down in the state. these images are of the hard hit town of wynne, arkansas, and that's where we find cnn's derek van dam. jim i was just talking to my crew a moment ago, and the scene behind us reminds us of being on the set of a major blockbuster movie. i mean, just look at what we have with this destruction coming out of wynne, arkansas, that is a church steeple that was blown off by this tornado. look at the incredible damage in front of that buil

well, jim. it's really one of those most interested of military planning events and the special operations forces that conduct these kinds of operations is noncombatant or neo evacuations. they train on this stuff all the time, so it's very important not only to get a training run all aspect of logistics train the fuel the supplies for the for the helicopters for other aircraft that would be used the intelligence preparation for the area. all of those things go into this, and all of this really means that to the military units coordinate with a lot of different agencies in order to make all of this stuff happened both civilian and military and in the case of a situation like this. they're also coordinating with partner nations, such as those from the european union who are also about back, you ating over. as well as a nations in the region and the sudanese forces on the ground, really, from the army or from the rsf, the rapid security force there that is fighting the regular army. and there are

i'm jim acosta in washington. we begin this hour with the escalating crisis in sudan and the emergency evacuation of u. s government personnel and their families about 100. us special operations forces carried out the overnight mission today. the u. s embassy in khartoum is closed. the decision to evacuate personnel comes after a week of heavy fighting between sudan's military and a rival paramilitary group more than 400. people have been killed, including one american state department estimates estimates there are about 16,000 americans in sudan. most are dual nationals, our correspondents, our position here and around the world to bring you all the angles of this developing story. let's begin with cnn's am kylie live from djibouti. sam djibouti's international airport is struggling to keep up with the sudden increase in flight volume. do this mass exodus from sudan. what more can you tell us about that? well, jim, it's not only the pressure, they say local officials are saying they've got them. they're hosting m

well jim. this explosion killed one of russia's most prominent pro war military bloggers, posting under the name of vlad lent tartasky. he accumulated more than half a million followers on his pro war telegram channel in which he was notoriously hard line enthusiastically, for instance, declaring on ukraine we will kill everyone. we will rob everyone we will have our way. and, of course, like other prominent russian military bloggers criticizing aspects about how the war in ukraine is being fought. tartasky was the guest speaker at a pro war gathering that st petersburg cafe when the explosion ripped through the venue. eyewitnesses have spoken about how it took place shortly after he was presented with a figurine, um in a gift box, state media, quoting official sources are saying that explosive device may have been hidden inside the statue. already there's been a denial of responsibility from ukraine with the presidential advisor. they're characterizing it more like an internal russian dispute.
