to find out if it was joanne chambers' dna on the threatening letters, jim anderson needed her dna profile. for that, he looked in her trash. once trash is placed at the curbside, the owner gives up all legal rights to what's inside. plastic straws, used tissues and a cotton swap with ear wax, all items with possible genetic material were sent to the dna lab for testing. a doctor identified two different dna profiles from the mucus, saliva, and earwax samples from the chambers' trash. >> the dna from one of the household members was similar to the dna on the back of the stamps and the envelopes. >> with these dna results, the defense team demanded that all charges against paula nawrocki be dropped. the prosecution refused and joanne chambers provided a blood sample for further dna testing. once again, joanne chambers blood dna matched the dna from the stamps and the envelope flap. >> you could see how all five genetic markers line up perfectly between the dna of joanne chambers and the dna from the back of the postage stamps. >> the odds of someone in the random u.s. population having the

jim, any more developments you're hearing? >> just some more anderson. of course this is happening unfolding. we've just seen one, two, three ambulances and you've heard that gunshot just there as well. we've seen those ambulances cross that bridge you can see behind me where the blue blinking slight of the police van. we've also seen those tactical units that we saw go in before some of them moving back still with their weapons drawn. of course most concerning development is just in these last few seconds here are those three ambulances going in there indicateing the possiblies of casualties on the scene. i reported earlier in the day a couple of hours ago we saw other ambulances leaving. i saw someone put on a stretcher because there were early reports of casualties. signs here that there may have been casualties in this attack as well. >> again, whether or not the casualties in the final operation were of hostages or were, in fact of the hostage taker not clear at this point. we want to be very careful in the reporting on this. jim, as far as you can

jim sciutto joining me live now from paris. what do we know about this fourth suspect? >> reporter: andersonleading investigators to this fourth suspect. one, a set of keys found. registered to a motorbike that belonged to this man. two ammunition used in the kosher attack and same ammunition found used in the shooting of a jogger the day before that attack which traced possibly to this man. the trouble is, french authorities believer this man already left the country possibly to syria. >> and the jogger identified the shooter, at least gave a possible identification, very different than the appearance of ahmed coulibaly. that's why they believe it's a different person. right? >> reporter: that's right. amedy coulibaly, and this man described as caucasian. we had another clue it was a different suspect. >> should point out, not african-american, of african descent. they took responsibility for the attack on "charlie hebdo." there's a video. we are not go g toing to play the video, because i don't believe they should get that kind of direct media access but essentially, what are they saying?

anderson. we don't have the details of that communication as jim described it. and frankly, these guys know they're being monitored. that's not a secret. you have to wonder what that's really about. now, remember, also in qatar, there was a taliban office and so he hardly has to reach all the way back to afghanistan in order to make contact. there's a bunch of things about the story as the facts we have so far that raise an awful lot of questions. that said, willi will tell you, it is not surprising to me. these guys were released not because they had seen the light of day and turned themselves around. these guys were released as part of a political deal and a policy decision on part of the administration. i don't think we should be surprised and i think the female suicide bomber while she will be if they could have this swap go forward, she will be lotted and she will be videotaped and there will be all sorts of propaganda that comes out of her. you have to expect somebody like her to go back to the battlefield and kill. >> you have a lot of experience coordina
