jim cantore is in pennsylvania. >> reporter: it's coming on down.ecause of this snow. the flakes are getting smaller and smaller. it's still coming down very intense. this is just unprecedented. the record snowfall in harrisburg is 2.1 for october. we could quadruple that before all is said and done. here's going to be the biggest problem. you can see this oak tree here where we're getting the snow sticking on the leaves and look at this leaf, it's almost bending straight over. the snow is sticking any way. once we get to four inches, five inches, that's where we'll see some of the lines come down. the roads are looking pretty good. cars will come by and there will be snow on them. it's the higher elevations that are getting the most snow right now. kind of nights seeing the capital here in pennsylvania. all dressed up in a blanket of white. i don't think anybody wanted that to be before december. we're having december here in october. the problem is, there are so many leaves on the trees like we have behind us and that means we are going to have ma

weather channel meteorologist jim cantore is in allentown, pennsylvania. still looking pretty snowy there today, jim. >> reporter: yeah. we had 6 to 14 inches here in lehigh county. mid-40s yesterday. the problem here, we still have over 200,000 statewide, people here trying to clean up the debris from their yard. they're obviously out of power now. you'll notice, chris, as we kind of pan up toward that window there, i mean, that's one of the bummers. you lose power, that's one thing. even try and heat the house by wood which many people are and then you lose the window. guess where all the heat goes. they got snow and water in there and everything. it's just not a good situation either way. but there are people out here, crews that are being hired, obviously, to help clean up this mess. really this is the scene -- you go from south central -- even into maryland all the way up through massachusetts, into connecticut, even into rhode island, this is the kind of scene you're going to see. you just can't have this kind of snow on trees that still have leaves t

the weather channel's jim cantore is in harrisburg, pennsylvania, this morning. it's it going now? >> reporter: i've never done this before in a snowstorm, i got a chance to pull off the big, heavy jacket. but the sun is nice and wonderful, it's beautiful and it's doing a job on melting some of this snow and the air is dry we are sob the little breeze that comes along is helping to dry out the roads. that's here in harrisburg where we only had 5 inches. off to the west in some of the hills, it's up to a foot. you can see the beautiful state capital here in harrisburg. this is probably one of the nicest state capitols i've ever seen. that snow is melting quickly. here's why this was such a big problem, craig, for pennsylvania. let's pan around and look at these oak trees, which are still green. you can see them behind me here. this is the situation. people had to use their snow shovels before their rakes, if you can imagine that. before even the first frost, we got right into the snow in through here. so so much for frost on the pumpkin. but the 5 inches that we h

pennsylvania was one of the first states hit with the storm, and that's where the weather channel's jim cantore is this morning. you warned us. >> when you look at some of the snowfall records that were broken, it wasn't just by a couple of inches. ten times the amount of snow they got in october at hartford, connecticut, for example. just obliterated that record. here's the deal. who would have thought in the first place that people would be pulling out shovels before they even pull out a leaf rake. that has been the case across much of pennsylvania as we've had anywhere from six to 12, even up to 18 inches of snow in some of the higher elevations. here's the issue. with that snow a lot of limbs coming down. i mean, look at the snowfall flakes yesterday. just huge snow flakes. almost the size of waffles coming down in the sky, and it wasn't long after those started falling here that we started to lose power. half a million at the height. now still 300,000 and pen-dot can't get to those roads before the utility crews get all the limbs repowered. >> thank you. >>> as we said, this is truly an hi
