let's get right to first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz tracking these storms for us. >> jim, the problem is, these storms are moving so slowly. and a little bit chaotically. so this is the main area, as you can see, with the lightning strikes generally south of the philadelphia area. there's another fairly large storm up in berks county. the rest of the area we're dealing with heavy rain. because we're not dealing wa lot of movement. very often you get severe thunderstorms that move 40, 50, 60 miles an hour. these are moving 10 to 15 miles an hour, redeveloping in some areas, falling apart in others. and so as you can see in philadelphia itself, we're not seeing as heavy of rain as we are across the river. gloucester county really getting hit. glassboro getting some of the heaviest rain right now going into winslow. a very, very slow movement, and that is why there is a flood advisory for much of the philadelphia area, northern delaware much of south jersey here. that is until 8:00 tonight. there will be some localized flooding out there as more rain continues. the storm in

let's get right to glenn "hurricane" schwartz to bring us up to speed. glenn? >> jimright now we're not seeing an immediate threat in philadelphia itself. but the worst of the action is in central delaware and in south jersey. and some of these areas have already been hit hard, and are going to continue to get hit hard. these storms, at least they're moving a little bit as we take a look over the last three hours. so at least it is moving more than the other ones. so as we take a look at this, moving toward the southeast, the heaviest of it is right over dover right now. and in the next hour or two, it's moving relatively slowly, until 6:20 to get to north cape may, and 6:30 to cape may itself if it continues on that trajectory. we haven't seen much in the way of storms continuing to move in the same direction. but you can see the heavier rain over dover now. it's starting to taper off at chestwold. it has tapered off considerably in brentford right now. at least it is moving. now, we can't say the same about the rain in berks county. this is hamburg. look at it. it's

jim, we'll see you soon. >>> turning to weather now. and meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> i picked a good week to be in philadelphia. with our longest heat wave in the season. >> i know. >> we got into the mid-90s again today. but the end of that heat wave is in sight. one place to escape the heat, the shore. cape may, nice and clear. the ocean temperature about 73 degrees. which is real nice. now, it wasn't sunny everywhere at the shore today, as we showed you a little earlier. thunderstorms at 3:00 over sea isle city caused localized flooding. it moved out fast. now things have cleared up. and we don't expect any problems from this. the temperature, though, got knocked down, near 80 degrees. upper township 79. atlantic city with the sea breeze. it was 90 degrees inland in places like mays landing. the heat wave continues at least one more day. and this is the longest one. so it's been above 90 since friday. the highest temperature during this particular heat wave, 97 degrees. of course, it felt like 108. the thunderstorms, though, are going to be returning. not durin

nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz here now with a look at what we can expect in our neighborhoods. glenn? >> yeah, jim, we're not going to be expecting temperatures in the 90s over the weekend. but we are going to be seeing a good deal of cloud cover. we did break the heat wave with a high officially of 89 degrees. pretty close, but not quite there. saturday and sunday we're in the mid-80s. remember, we were 95 yesterday, with the high humidity. and it's in the mid to upper 80s across much of the area now. the jersey shore, cooler than that. a little sea breeze, atlantic city 77, ocean city 77, cape may courthouse 78. and cape may point 78 degrees. things are pretty quiet on the radar. we've seen a lot of sunshine this afternoon, after the heavy rain early this morning. a couple little showers up in the poconos. but very, very light. that is not the case in northwestern pennsylvania and ohio. a lot of that activity is headed this way for tomorrow. as you can see, we could even see some of those thunderstorms developing before noontime tomorrow. so enjoy the morning hours, because that may be the only
