joining me now is former virginia senator jim webb who has also served as assistant secretary of defense the reagan administration. senator webb, you've just visited iowa like hillary clinton. what is your type table on making a decision about running for president? >> by the way, as you just pointed out, the only time i've ever run for office, i ran as a democrat. i'm very proud to have served in the reagan administration on the issues that they focused on, but i've been in terms of political office a democrat we had a good visit in iowa. we spent four days there. as i was pretty much all over the state. i mean, in good different parts of the state. we started off in council bluff near where i had graduated from high school across the river just south of omaha. fought golden gloves in omaha, spent a lot of time in that part of america. and we went out to different places, spent a couple hours in the car each way is, sat down and talked with people, be listened to them and iowa is very important to our decision that you just asked about, and i came back from iowa pretty enthusiastic. >>

yes, jim webb and martin o'malley, drinking beer and eating cookies. their chances appear slim compared to her. she's coming in and i suspect the numbers will hold. my slip a little bit, but i think now that she's starting it democrats will get very excited. >> another shot across the bow kind of from the "economist. jim webb's basic pitch is if you look at that quinnipiac poll yesterday suggesting 49% of voters right here in iowa believe that hillary clinton is not honest and trustworthy. webb told me that people are looking for leaders they can trust. that word trust you can expect to hear a lot from not just the republican field but maybe hillary clinton's democratic rivals. what she has going for her though, of course is the fact that her name i.d. despite these potential weaknesses on trust because the email issue, the clinton foundation the money pouring in from foreign governments. she still has name i.d. that far outpaces o'malley and webb. and let's not forget, you just spent several minutes on very important issues of national security at a time when the the world is very dangerous. a former secretary of state may have a lot more experience than a former governor, a former senator greta? >> ed, thank you. and secretary clinton's announcement while expected turning news rooms upside down as they scramble to cover it meanwhile the big question how clear is her path to the white house. what
