thanks very much, joe johns for that.eeper right now with cnn's richard quest, he's joining us from new york. so why has there been so much confusion from the malaysians, richard? you know them, you were just in kuala lumpur, you actually flew on one of those planes with the co-pilot in this particular case. what's going on here? >> i don't think there has been confusion, wolf. i'm going to take a contrarian view here, i think what you're looking at is an investigation that has been this point relatively thorough. we would all be excoriating the malaysians if they had diverted resources to the indian ocean for those pings to be proved to be untrue. what they got here, wolf, was data from imarsat on the 12th. the americans and the brits were part of the analysis on the 13th. they said we need more data, we're not happy with what we have got, it went back to the americans and the brits, and by the 15th, you get, yes, we all agree. if you're going to start moving ships from the south china sea all the way down to the western

let's bring in joe johns from washington now. recent developments. >> this was marcia fudge of ohio with the congressional black caucus. it may be bigger than that. she offered what's called a privileged resolution on the house floor alleging that the chairman of the house oversight and reform committee darrel issa acted inappropriately trying to turn off the microphones and trying to adjourn the meeting while congressman alijah cummings of maryland was raising objections to the way the committee was proceeding. marcia fudge essentially read this resolution. it doesn't have to be enacted immediately. bottom line, it's not likely to do far. the house of representatives as you know sort of operates as a place that is generated by force. republicans control the house of representatives. the bottom line on this is that it's escalation in the house of representatives over this fight, this spat, that occurred just yesterday in committee. and what is this about? the question of alleged irs targeting of groups including tea partiers that

joe johns, you've been looking into that for us. what is it about the flight path and behavior that tells investigators that it could be accidental as opposed to intentional. >> jim, this goes into the category of things that can't be ruled out as long as a black box is not recovered. a sudden change in direction suggests that something went wrong on the plane very rapidly. if that's true, the plane dropped altitude rapidly, that could have been because of a sudden decompression problem which could be explained by any breach, a big fire, explosion, even an open door. with this scenario, there could have only been seconds to react before passing out. the pilots would have been trying to get the plane to an altitude where the people on board could get oxygen. if it's true, the plane flew for hours afterwards and the question is whether the crew was incapacitated, jim. >> as we're learning more about the flight's path, you know, this hard turn that flight 370 took into the southern indian ocean, if these current calculations are correc

our joe johns has that story. >> reporter: so why did it take four days for the public to learn thatlane may have flown for several hours in either of two corridors away from the area being searched last week? the malaysian government said it took that long for experts, including some from the u.s., to reach a con sen shsensus about satellite data. even now, obviously, the reliability is not clear. >> from what we have gathered from the communication with the pilot, we have not come to any conclusion. >> reporter: wednesday, march 12th, is when the malaysian government got the information from the inmarsat. >> the u.s. team and investigation teams of malaysia are processing what was needed before it could be used. >> reporter: the 13th, results cam back but further refinement was needed so the data was sent back to the u.s. again. friday the 14th malaysia says the results were received about 2:30 in the afternoon and presented at a high-level meeting where the u.s., the uk, and others processing the information concurred. saturday the 15th, the malaysian prime minister was briefed on

we want to bring in our senior washington correspondent, joe johns.s been following the investigation. joe, we know now that they confiscated the pilot's flight simulator, his personal flight simulator, from his house. of course, they waited a week to do that. but what do we now know about what this might reveal? >> we know a little what they were looking for. looking for records on the hard drive or software in the simulator that might tell them whether the captain practiced unusual maneuvers or approaches to other airports. the other issue is whether anyone besides the captain may have trained on that simulator, and if so, investigators want to locate those persons and find out what they know. that said, there's still nothing the authorities have made public suggesting a motive to take at that plane and fly it off course and is make it disappear. >> and, of course, a lot of pilots here saying that's not uncommon for pilots to have simulator in their own home. we also know that the pilot has been a supporter of the malaysian opposition party and that
