fox's joel waldman is live in charleston tonight. joel, what exactly happened in court today?> reporter: dawn, good afternoon to you. dylann storm roof 21 years old did in fact have his first court appearance today. magistrate charging him with nine counts of murder. but did he not have the authority to set a bond or even issue a bond as far as it goes pertaining to the murder charges charges. however there's also a weapons charge so as it relates to the weapons charge the magistrate in this case setting a $1 million bond. but because of the issue with the murder charge is not being able to set bond, the million dollars bond is sort of a moot point. no chance for dylan roof of getting out of jail at least not now on any sort of bond. all done via video link. he's actually being held in north charleston at the detention center watch was quiet interesting is that some of the victim's families were able to speak at that and it was quite emotional. dawn? >> obviously there's whole lot of sorrow and anger across the country tonight. i know there's a growing memorial behind you. giv

fox's joel waldman joins us now from charleston where the question i guess is right now where exactlylann roof? do you know, joel? >> reporter: lucy, good afternoon to you. from what we understand dylann storm roof 21 years old who was arrested in north carolina earlier today about 220 miles from where we're standing here which is just stone's throw from the church, he is apparently on his way back now to face charges in charleston, south carolina. we are getting word that he has waived his ex extra addition so he is in fact headed back here. we're also hearing when authorities apprehended him in north carolina, they found a drug on him a prescription drug i should add to help treat with -- treat open poe yacht at diction. last couple of months, he faced several arrests arrest add couple times. one time it was on a drug charge. second time on a trespassing charge. so perhaps little bit of a drug history in this suspect's past. and obviously right now investigators and authorities anxiously waiting to speak to him. >> lucy. >> i guess the picture of him will become more clear in the co

joel waldman live in charleston. joel. >> good evening to you. an arraignment date and time for 21-year-old dylan roof. he will be arraigned. he was brought back here to charleston south carolina. his arraignment tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at the detention center he is being held in and we are told that there are cameras in there so we might get a good look at him tomorrow as well. investigators obviously want to check out his profile very closely and are looking at a few things. one of them obviously potential ties to white supremacist groups. when they made the arrest of mr. roof about 220 miles from where we are right now in charleston, south carolina as he was heading north into north carolina they found a confederate flag on his license plate. turns out he's also been seen with these patches on his jacket from countries like south africa as well as road keisha. those are red flags for investigators in shelby north carolina they found drugs that are used sort of an antidote to opiate addiction. turns out as well that dylann roof was arrested recen
