our john atwater reports from arlington where the news of that attack is spreading quickly. john: the park is a pretty draw for people who live in the there's really no secret there are coyotes living back there, but they are rarely this aggressive. leo was a playful pup. the 2-year-old westie was the family's first dog. friday morning at 6:45 as part of his routine, he went out in the backyard. >> seems like a coyote came down from a wooded area and took the dog right out of the yard. john: the family's home backs up to the park. the invisible fence around the perimeter of their yard could not thwart the hungry predator. and around dusk is when they want -- we really want people to pay attention to the surroundings. be aware of what's going on. john: leo's family said he stood no chance as the daring coyote darted into the yard. people who live here know that coyotes have been seen in the park and now police here are urging people to be even more cautious. >> oh, absolutely. nothing they could have done. it was just -- it just happened. and it's unfortunate. i felt horrible

newscenter 5's john atwater is there with the dramatic rescue. john: an amazing rescue here tonight. this man was out in the chilly water for 40 hours. he's he is walking off the helicopter that had just rescued him from the water. he gets a big hug from his family, absolutely relieved. video of that rescue a quarter-mile off crane beach. this is a coast guard helicopter hovering above the water and a diver being lifted with that swimmer out of the water to safety. police say the man and his son-in-law went for a swim around 5:30 p.m., they are experienced swimmers, they do this a couple times a week police say there was zero visibility and there were very strong currents. the younger of the two made it to shore on his own but his father-in-law was out there and they are experienced swimmers and they did the right thing and did not panic. that assisted with our rescue. everyone did great job and things do not usually turn out this good. we are glad for that outcome. john: thickly, both of these swimmers are expected to be ok. head: also breaking,
