my next job was communications director for john conyers. u cannot match the experience of working for a member of congress that's been around as long as john. it's not essential to go to graduate school. it cannot hurt, often times it helps. if you are going to an ivey league school, you can't beat the connections. civic engagement. everybody is not cut out for public office or working in the public sector. you see that often time when's people are out to get money. bringing people up. talking to high school students, meant yring students in your community where you attend college. i have only worked in public service. the obama campaign. my sense of purpose is in working on issues that really connect with people. there is nothing more important for an individual than their shelter. that is the sense of purpose i find in my current role. that's all i have. >> i took a different route. i did graduate school first and then i started working on the hill. there is one piece whether you want to be a public servant or elected official. there's a s

i think that john conyers, the ranking democrat, really is very humorless.ied to ban stephen when he was obviously going to be in character from giving testimony. if you watch c-span on a regular basis you see what a joke many of these committee hearings are anyway. so i think he did a great job. i predict he will bring more attention to this issue because it is a fact now. the pew research institute has issued its latest findings, one out of every seven agricultural workers in this country today is an undocumented immigrant. so he brings a real issue to the public in a humor russ way. satire has always been used in that way. jenna: he is covering his mouth. laughing --. >> reporter: trying to stay in character. jenna: we'll see if he returns again. one of the things we talked about tea party. tea party panel. the guy says i don't like the tea party. lynn asks do you feel you underestimated tea party movement in the other days? >> jen, i like to, had my 40th anniversary and point out all the things i did right. no doubt i missed the tea party phenomenon when

we need friends of john conyers, you know, testimony. the other things we need to do is t we need to make sure that peop are made aware that the 14th amendment is under assault, and that means the bill of rights is under assault. and if they will go there, they will go to the fourth amendment. if they will go there they could go to the 13th amendment. not likely, but they will go to other amendments. they certainly have repeedly tried to pass amendments that circumscribe the first amendment. so whatever you can tell us to do, this is the ream team. and so, i want to now open up questions from the audience for the panelists to do we have a microphone? if not, if you say it i will repeat it. yes. no microphone? okay. >> i'm executive director and the government sector of the united states colored toops. to celebrate those of us who served in the civil war, and sisters. and i'm also chair of the d.c. regime. i have been in u.s. court of appeals right now gordon versus biden that started off as gordon versus cheney. to enforce the second sec

job yesterday the only person that i saw that even attempted to gain a hold of this thing was john conyers saying to submit his statement in writing. the chair of the committee said to make this a joke. what i am mostly disappointed in is that the republicans on the committee did not walk out. that would have made a statement. it was not worth it. the fact that stephen colbert work for one day in a field to show what migrant workers do, my god, i grew up working in farmer fields in wisconsin picking rocks. that is what you did when you are a high-school student and there were no other jobs. you picked rocks before the farmers would plow and plant. i could have, and testified and said what it was like to work and 100-degree temperatures. i had as much experience as stephen colbert did. that is not the kind of person that should be in front of our congress giving testimony host: you don't think he brought attention to the issue at least? caller: he made the congress looks stupid. there is enough attention on illegal immigration with our federal government suing the state of arizona over thei
