even the governor of colorado, john hickenlooper, who was against legalization said it has definitely helped the economy here through the last year when the economy has been kind of poor. >> for any other state or community who may be considering following through with legal recreational marijuana are there things that you would recommend that that community or state do based on what you've seen in colorado? >> well, i would say that the first thing they should do is probably talk to people here in colorado. one of the things that happened last year when we were going about trying to set up the rules and regulations was there was no one to call. there was no one to ask, you know, what did you do? what did you do right? what did you do wrong? the first thing people can do is call colorado, call people here and find out what's gone right and what's gone wrong. >> do you have a census of what state may be next? >> it's hard to say. alaska may be the next one to go, but i'm not sure. there are an awful lot of states that have it set up for 2016, so i think we're going to see several state

democratic governor john hickenlooper started a initiative to address the teen birth rate.ceptive devices at low or no cost since 2009. they have seen a 40% drop, not a mistake, in teen birth rates in five years. the tina borgs rate has dropped 35% to 2009 to 2012 in the counties served by the initiative. for every dollar spent the family planning program saved $5.68 in medicaid costs. the state saved $42.5 million in health care expenditures associated with teen births in 2010 alone. it's a stark contrast to the results out of texas where governor rick perry pushed ab stinance only education program. the state has the fifth highest birth rate among teenagers and state also reported the highest rate of repeat births among teenagers between 15 to 19. teenage births cost taxpayers $1.1 billion in health care, foster care and lost tax revenue in 2010 alone. folks, the lab results are in and it's clear which states' policy is working. joining me now is our rapid response panel, msnbc political analyst karen finney and assistaassist ant professor at georgetown university. we hav

to talk about optics, last night the president was out in denver, shooting pool with governor john hickenlooperving beers there, everyone deserves to have their fun. is that a picture the white house should be concerned about with this crisis, with this discussion hanging over his head? >> look, on the one hand we could have a conversation about every optical moment and choice that this white house has made. not all of which i would necessarily agree with, but i do think it's fascinating they seem to be held to a ridiculously higher standard of oh he's only supposed to do one thing at one time. there's always crisis. there's always problems and he has to jug al lot of balls at the same time. look, this sort of notion of he should be going to the border. look, if i were this president, i would be going to certainly visit these camps where the kids are being housed and the humanitarian conditions, but the reason to not visit the border is very obvious. this is not a border crisis. these kids are coming to the border, they are getting stopped, the border is working, republicans are trying to turn
