i asked john miller of the nypd and our terrorism experts if this is a wakeup call for us in america, what do you make of that? >> i think it should be. too many americans, too many people in politics and the media, i think they somehow put 9/11 in the recesses of their mind. the world is as dangerous today as it was on september 12, 2001 and this was proven tonight in paris. i think americans should look at this and realize it could have been us. you go back to the fourth of july when there was evidence of a possible terrorist attack. and fortunately five isis opentives were arrested in the new york city area and we were not attacked. if they were not stopped it could have led to an attack similar to what we saw in paris tonight. this is an enemy that is diabolical. this morning when the president was on television saying that isis is contained, i don't know where he got that from or why he was saying that. i'm saying that is an indication of the country not taking this threat seriously enough or realizing how ongoing it is. >> so how vulnerable, then, are americans in your estimatio

a sober conversation with john miller earlier.y first question is to mike, you listen to that interview with john miller and look at the events over the last week. if we are in a war between isis and the west, who is winning right now? >> well, certainly isis has had some tactical victories and they've done something pretty important for their terrorist credentials. they have been able to pull off very sophisticated operations. it's not easy to get into france undetected, let alone be able to put together bomb makers and get vehicles and do other things and get on target and have that event go off as planned. that's a very difficult thing to do and it's that level of sophistication and all that planning means they had a tactical victory. same with bringing the plane over the sinai, killing the russian tourists and same with getting folks into lebanon and getting those bombs to go off on target, killing 46 people. so it is -- they are having a series of tactical victory, strategically we're nowhere close to losing. but that is an i

let's talk with john miller. i imagine you are getting information at all time. is this a wakeup call to america? >> not at all. that would go to the assumption that we were ever asleep. from the time of the mumbai attack where you saw active shooters, the use of explosive devices, suicide bombers and so on, the nypd under then commissioner kelly began to put together a comprehensive response plan for something just like that, which is actually just like this. >> 160-some people died in the mumbai attack, 300 or so injured. this appears to be 153 at this moment. there is a comparison to make this a mini-mumbai and some people are calling it that. >> i think it's early but if you look at what we've seen so far and it's early, you have the same tactics, training and procedures apparent here as mumbai. and if you look at the paradigm of that attack, it is low tech. it's low cost. it's extraordinarily high impact. and i think if you look at the emerging terrorist groups, there is a move away from the spectacular attack of towers falling and things that are very compl

he next called himself john miller. all of this is rather ridiculous. but the minute the press asks a question about the past, the candidates turn it into a debate about how unfair the news media might be. >> well, let me put that to you, allister, it obviously is entertaining. all the networks, which have broadcast and hosted the republican debates so far have seen massive ratings bonanza. i mean massive, off the scales, really. how is that viewed from here, certainly in terms of, let's say, a british election debate? particularly at a time when there is this massive refugee crisis, where there's an ongoing war in syria, where there are major challenges from both president putin of russia and indeed challenges from china. and yet they seem to be skimming over that. >> when you're a politician in a campaign as long and as tough as the presidential campaign, you have to have your strategy worked out, you have to have your answers worked out in these big policy issues that you can express very concisely and very quickly. and watching them, you just get a
