at mount diablo state park yesterday afternoon near the mitchell canyon area on the bruce lee trail of the park. the chp airlifted the child to johndical center for treatment immediately. we don't have an update on the child's condition, but rattlesnakes are not uncommon here at this park and at others in northern california and the bay area. this is video from the mount diablo state park facebook page from a few years ago showing some of their rare rattlesnakes, as they called them, just hanging out by the visitor center at the summit. we spoke with the executive director of the nonprofit conservancy group save mount diablo this morning. he recalled his first encounter with the rattlesnake here years ago. i was mid-stride and all of a sudden the rattle went off and i looked down between my legs and i hadn't noticed. but in a clump of grass was a very large rattlesnake and i was soaring over it. maybe 6 or 8in over its body could have easily bitten dt letting me know i'm here. a park ranger who's worked here at mount diablo state park for the last six years says he has safely removed dozens of rattlesnakes away from people over th
