nick. >> reporter: john, as you join me, we're hearing jets still in the skies above us. it appears there have been two strikes since the sun rose. this morning, loud explosions witnessed by those on the hill here. it's hard to work out what is happening in that city. we since dusk fell visited to the west. but kurdish forces took to the west. interesting tactic gave us high ground. but to the south, 21 air strikes in just a 24-hour period seems to perhaps changed something of the dynamic of the fight down in the city. maybe isis seeing each time they gather the ordnance landing bon them perhaps have chosen to delay or rethink how they're going to about this. as you say, this fight for kobani has been drawn into a wider issue here. many say it should be so simple, turkey pushing against isis. but it's dragged into their decades-long dispute with the kurds today passes a deadline. significant moment. there have been peace talks between the kurds and the turkish government. today, potentially that cease-fire could run into trouble. and the turkish rebels are pounding inside

nick. >> reporter: john, i just heard in the last few minutes with the official from peshmerga that they may actually not be entering. that is the iraqi kurds peshmerga, may not enter for a day or two more. they are still here inside turkey. we have seen some of them in a police complex along the main highway here. they arrived at 3:00 this morning with crowds greeting them along the route. two parts of the convoy. motorized bit driving from iraq through turkey and a lot of men flown by plane. they will gather and prepare themselves for the entry into kobani. a more complex process than people led to expect. the surprise being turkey allowed the syrian rebels yesterday. reinforcements are there. they are not the kurdish ones that they were expecting, the peshmerga are here, but the clock is not ticking with the speedy think many thought would be the case with the peshmerga getting in. the fight is continuing inside. the awful weather may be slowing it slightly. the issue is how quickly can the peshmerga get in. the turkish authorities are describing it as lengthy. it is a suspicious that

nick. >> reporter: john, a comparatively quiet morning so far. we understand overnight, clashes to the far east of the city and to the south. i have just heard what sounded like exchange of heavy gunfire to the west hill that the kurds took a few days ago. yes, in the last 72 hours, we have known over 50 coalition air strikes that have hit this town. it has been remarkable to observe, the extent of the fire power deployed against the town where a week ago officials were saying it was not that strategically significant. something changed in the u.s. calculatio calculations. the situation changed where the kurds were confident and can hold for now while tv cameras are on that city. kobani is a benefit for the u.s. as it tries to talk out operations with turkey and the issue of what to do with the kurdish city which is no longer the center of the situation. you mentioned the official has met with the official of the syrian kurdish group. for the u.s. air exploring all avenues and it seems for now, air power is slowing isis advance. have to see if it

nick. >> reporter: john, we know that those 27 bundles centcom admit went -- they say that was in fact destroyed air drops that they put out that day around kobani. that video does show that isis were able to get to it in some intact form. there's no suggestion credibly that video has anything but offense. it did land after that footage was taken but bear in mind, one bundle going astray in the sense of the kurds who needed an urgent resupply, the fact that one went astray doesn't tip the balance on the field. and the fact that kobani still is seems ongoing. we're hearing from sources inside the city that fighting is intense far out to the east, the industrial area, where isis had originally began their advance. isis is still in the city's center somewhat randomly. and there's still pressure on the kurds who say they lost six of theirs in the last 24 hours but recovered the bodies of over ten isis fighters. this information is slightly unconfirmed but a sense that there is still fighting that the kurds have that resupply and know that potentially in the days ahead iraqi kurdish peshmerga fighter
