paul ryan is the logical fallback candidate, but those running, like john kasich, say unless you run,you cannot really be considered by this convention. that would take away the rationale for john kasich. >> reporter: and paul ryan has said that as well. if you are going to be president, you must run for president. those who serve in high positions in the congress, they take very seriously that that is a separate coequal branch of government and paul ryan knows how hard it was to fill the speakership. he is trying to set an alternative list of policy ideas to sort of give some to show what the republican party is about and for and the kinds of things that matter to try to keep a house majority and even more importantly and more precariously, the senate majority. so i think although paul ryan has been drafted before, he's in a different position now to be speaker of the house and is a very big job and to threaten that body by saying he could be drafted into the presidency seems a much bigger reach now. and taking him at his word is something he hopes people will do when he makes those

i'm sure paul ryan's going to be a lot of fun when he's retired too. but until then, we have john boehner to tell us what paul ryan's really thinking. that is that they would rather lose with trump than lose with cruz. john boehner saided they would lose with donald trump as their nominee because there are not enough white males out there to relekt him. and the reason is not because donald trump is a better republican. john boehner would rather lose with trump. because he hates ted cruz. he thinks ted cruz is the devil. the thinks ted cruz is a terrible, terrible person. and the problem for ted cruz is that john boehner isn't just speaking for washington professional republicans. according to the polls, he is speaking for millions of republicans out there. the stop trump movement would have a tough job if they have a strong candidate to offer an alternative to trump. but the stop trump movement is stopped with ted cruz as their alternative with donald trump. and a republican candidate and a republican leader who can happily and publicly call lucifer in the flesh. we're joined by l
