though johnny williams said he talked to bob mcdonald before he gave the 50 grand to maureen. bob mcdonald said that's false. he said he didn't know about the 50,000-dollar loan until maureen told him several months later. he wasn't happy about it but didn't tell her to give the money back because it was all ready spent. now we also heard about the rolex watch. he said he really thought that maureen bought it. it came in a mavado box. with not rolex wrapping paper. he questioned it. but it was around christmas time. he thought it was a sincere gift from his wife and that she bought it, so he kept it. that watch has been given back and the jury has seen that watch. here's what bob mcdonald said a few moments ago. >> it's a long way to go. but all i've said for 18 months is that i want the full truth to come out. and that's the best for me and my family in the short and long- term. >> governor how difficult of a day was this for you in the context of how this process has gone down. what was today like? >> that's probably pretty self evident i think. >> governor you talked about

johnny williams was grilled about his relationships with bob mcdonnell and his wife maureen.after a lot of hours on the stand, did he help cement the prosecution case or did the defense poke some holes? julie carey is live with the story for us. >> reporter: johnny williams spent two full days and parts of other days on the stand. but in those many hours of testimony he delivered the story that the prosecutor wanted the jurors to hear, he gave the mcdonnells gifts, money, more than $160,000 worth to give his company help. >> reporter: there was no comment to reporters as johnny williams left the stand, but in testimony today he was clear whether he had a romantic relationship with maureen mcdonnell. asked the prosecutor, did you ever have a physical or intimate relationipitmsmcnnl? he said dn'kn m mcdonnell had any intert m until thee no, i never had any physical contact with maureen mcdonnell, period. the mcdonnell defense team said it will show the first couple's marriage was so broken they could not have criminally conspired and that maureen had a crush on williams. willia

they're trying to show a direct connection between what johnny williams gave the mcdonald's, whether it's one of those $50,000 loans or the $20,000 loans or one of many vacation stays and what governor mcdonald did for johnny williams. take a look at the witness on the stand. he is special agent david holzer and he momentsing a testified about the receipts he looked at the chatham bar in maine where johnny williams spent $36,000 on a labor day weekend stay for the mcdonald's and other people. he is talking about all those e- mails and texts and receipts he analyzed. yesterday he talked about the credit card debt, the credit card that the -- the seven credit cards the mcdonald's have and he said that they have a peak debt of more than $90,000. i asked the governor about that this morning. i asked him about that debt, and he said it's difficult. he said it's very difficult running a campaign, difficult on the family, and he says he's looking forward to presenting his side. we're expecting the defense to start on monday. we're not sure when the governor's going to take the stand, but hi

outrage is the way a business executive said that he reacted after learning colleague johnny williams gave bob and maureen mcdonald tens of thousands of dollars in gifts and loans. we go live now to northern virginia bureau chief julie carey outside the courthouse with the friday developments today. julie. >> reporter: well, that executive's name is paul perito. he used to be a federal prosecutor before he joined star scientific, and prosecutors in this case are hoping that his testimony lends credibility to what johnny williams said on the stand last week. >> what's your hope for today? >> i hope we get to the weekend. >> reporter: a weary bob mcdonald headingn right now. all i can do is listen as the prosecution lays out its case. today prosecutors turn to star scientific's former board chair. perito testified that bepresenteding bob and maureen mcdonald in hopes of getting support for their new dietary supplement, but perito was won over, especially when he went to an august 2011 lunch at a governor's mansion with university researchers on the very day star launched their product.
